The Red Wings beat the Blues 2-1 in a shootout last night in St. Louis to win their sixth straight.   Petr Mrazek was brilliant in goal for the Wings, stopping 31 shots as well as 7 more in the shootout. Gustav Nyquist scored on Detroit's second attempt, and then in the 8th round,  Henrik Zetterberg scored to give the Red Wings the 2-1 win. Frans Nielsen scored the first Detroit goal, a short-handed goal to tie it at 1 in the second period.   Detroit is home to play Boston on Saturday night.

World Series

The Cubs and Indians enjoyed a off day after splitting the first two games in Cleveland.  Tonight's contest will be the first World Series game at Wrigley since 1945, when the Cubs extended their championship drought by falling to the Tigers in Game 7.  Josh Tomlin gets the starting assignment for the Indians, while the Cubs will go with major league ERA leader Kyle Hendricks.

Pistons

The Detroit Pistons could be starting their final season at The Palace of Auburn Hills.  A source says the team is in advanced discussions about moving downtown to play at the Detroit Red Wings' new arena The Pistons have not commented but reports say that the intent would be for the team to start playing downtown next season if possible.    The Pistons home opener is tonight as the Orlando Magic come to the Palace of Auburn Hills.   Detroit lost the season opener in Toronto on Wednesday.

College Basketball

The MSU Spartan Basketball team beat Northwood, 93-69 last night in East Lansing.  Miles Bridges scored 33 points on 12 of 14 shooting to go along with eight rebounds.  MSU plays Saginaw Valley State in an exhibition game next Wednesday.  We’ll have a chance for you to win tickets to that game on the WBCK Morning Show.

Thursday Night Football

The Tennessee Titans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 36-22 on Thursday Night Football in Nashville.   Marcus Mariota was 18 of 22 for 270 yards and two touchdowns.  DeMarco Murray ran for 123 yards and a touchdown for the Titans, who scored on six straight possessions bridging the first and third quarters.  Tennessee is 4-4 following its third win in four games.

 Lions Football

Houston's Brock Osweiler has been so bad on the road this season that a fan started a Go Fund Me page in a comical attempt to raise money to buy out his $72 million contract.  Criticism of Osweiler and his huge deal have increased with each Houston loss.  The good news for Osweiler and the Texans is that they return to Houston this week where they'll look to improve to 5-0 at home when they host the Detroit Lions .  Both teams are 4-3.   Broadcast time is 12 noon Sunday on WBCK.

 Volleyball

A season-high 182 fans came out to see KCC’s final volleyball game at the Miller Gym.   The 50-year old building will be torn down after the basketball season and a new $10 million athletic facility is expected to be completed by 2018. Mott Community College beat KCC in five to end the Lady Bruins’ season.

 College Football

Michigan is favored to win by more than three touchdowns despite losing three straight and seven of eight in the series.  WBCK will have the Michigan-Michigan State game this Saturday morning at 10:30.

Undefeated Grand Valley State hosts Findlay on Saturday night as they go for their 9th straight victory of the season.  The Lakers are top ranked in Super Region Four of the NCAA Division II.

Undefeated and 20th –ranked Western Michigan will travel to Ball State for a Tuesday night, broadcast on ESPN2.

Nascar 3

Nascar races at Martinsville this Sunday afternoon in the Goody’s Fast Relief 500.   Four races remain in the chase for the Sprint Cup.

Six area teams made the High School Football Playoffs.

Lakeview (6-2) at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central (7-2)  WBCK will broadcast the game at 6:35 this Friday night.  The winner takes on Portage Northern (5-4) or Portage Central (8-1)*

Harper Creek (7-2) at Coldwater (7-2) The winner takes on Vicksburg (7-2) or Chelsea (9-0)*

Pennfield (5-4) at Lake Odessa-Lakewood (8-1)* The winner takes on Williamston (5-4) or Lansing Sexton (6-3)

Olivet (5-4) at Berrien Springs (8-1)* The winner takes on Buchanan (5-3) or Dowagiac (6-3)

Dansville (6-3) at Homer (7-2)*  The winner takes on Springport (7-2) or Concord (7-2)

Colon (5-4) at Climax-Scotts (9-0)*  Climax-Scotts remains at #2 in the state in the final AP poll of the regular season.   The winner of Friday’s game takes on Mendon (7-2) or St. Joseph Lake Michigan Catholic (8-1)
