Pistons

The Pistons start the pre-season tonight against the Nets in Brooklyn.  Detroit will probably be without their starting point guard Reggie Jackson.   He’s had another flare-up of tendonitis in his knee, and sources say the Pistons are worried enough to start shopping around for another guard, just in case.  Jackson is in the second season of an $80 million dollar, 5-year contract.   The regular season starts October 27th as the Pistons go to Toronto.

Red Wings

The Red Wings won 5-2 in Pittsburgh against the Penguins in pre-season hockey.   The Red Wings had goals from Gustav Nyquist and Todd Bertouzzi to build a 2-0 lead after a period.  The Penguins tied it up, but goals by Martin Frk and Brendan Smith and an empty netter sealed the win for the Red Wings.   The Red Wings are 4-1-1 in pre-season and play the first of a home-and-home series in Toronto tonight against the Maple Leafs.  The regular season starts Thursday in Tampa.

 

Thursday Night Football

Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians says quarterback Carson Palmer remains in the concussion protocol and has not been cleared to play when they face the 49ers tonight. That means backup Drew Stanton will make the 13th start of his 10-year NFL career. Stanton hasn't started since 2014, when he went 5-3 after Palmer went down with shoulder and knee injuries.

Tigers Keep Ausmus As Manager for 2017

Tigers’ GM Al Avila ended speculation about Manager Brad Ausmus’ status as manager on Wednesday. The Tigers will keep Manager Brad Ausmus for at least one more season.  Despite the team missing the playoffs for a second straight season, the have exercised the 2017 club option Ausmus' contract.

MLB Playoffs

The Giants won the National League wild-card playoff game 3-0 over the Mets in New York last night and will head to Chicago tomorrow to play the Cubs in the National League Division Series at 9pm.   Madison Bumgarner threw a four-hitter. The game was scoreless in the ninth until Conor Gillaspie crushed a three-run homer off Jeurys Familia.

The Dodgers will be at Washington on Friday at 5:30pm.

The Blue Jays are in Texas to play the Rangers today at 4:30pm in the division series.  Game two will be Friday afternoon at 1pm in Texas.

Cleveland will host the Red Sox tonight at 8pm.  Game two will be Friday at 4:30 in Cleveland.

College Football

The WMU Broncos are 5-0 to start the season, and host Northern Illinois this Saturday night at Waldo Stadium. The Huskies got their first win of the season on Saturday against Ball State.  Kickoff is 6:30pm, and WBCK has tickets to the game.

MSU

The MSU Spartans host Brigham Young University on Saturday.  Broadcast time is 2pm on WBCK.  Coach Mark Dantonio is on the air tonight at 7pm on WBCK, live from East Lansing.

Michigan

Michigan is at Rutgers this Saturday night.  Broadcast time is 6pm on 104.9 the Edge.

 

Lions Football

The Lions host the Eagles this Sunday at Ford Field.  Broadcast time is 12 noon on WBCK.

Volleyball

Marshall beat Jackson Lumen Christi 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14 on Wednesday.  Chloe Webber led Marshall with 10 kills.   In their annual Dig Pink match that raised over $3,000 for Oaklawn Hospital.

In another Dig Pink game, Harper Creek beat Pennfield 3-0.  Charley Andrews had 20 kills for the Beavers.

Lakeview beat Kalamazoo Central 3-2.   Sidney Schiller had 30 kills.

Gull Lake 3, Battle Creek Central 0.
