Big Ten Tournament

It’s a showdown between Michigan and Michigan State today in the Big Ten Tournament at Indianapolis.

Number 8 Michigan blew a 12-point second-half lead, then finished the game on a 7-1 run to beat archrival Ohio State 72-69. Nik Stauskas had 18 points and Caris LeVert had 17 to lead the Wolverines, winners of seven straight.

Adreian Payne scored 18 points, Branden Dawson had 14 and Number 22 Michigan State beat Number 12 Wisconsin 83-75 on Saturday. The third-seeded Spartans won consecutive games for the first time since winning 11 straight in a stretch over December and January.

The in-state rivals have never met for the conference tournament final, but they have played each other twice this season, with the Wolverines winning both games.

Pistons Lose

The Pistons blew  a 25-point second-quarter and lost to the Indiana Pacers 112-104 in overtime Saturday night. The Pistons are off until they head to Denver next Wednesday.

Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled right wing Jordin Tootoo from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. The team announced the move on Saturday. Tootoo has played 10 games with Detroit this season. The Red Wings play the Blackhawks tonight in Chicago.

Tigers

The Tigers beat the Astros 14-3, collecting 18 hits. Eight Tiger regulars in the game are all batting over .300 for the spring.  Austin Jackson is hitting .469 and third sacker Nick Castellanos is at .447.   Miguel Cabrera and Donnie Kelley are also over .400.

The Tigers send Justin Verlander to the mound today in Viera Florida against the Washington Nationals.

Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias will miss most of 2014 with a shin-splint-type injury.That's according to ESPN's Jim Bowden,  Bowden tweeted the news, citing the source as another player that is close to Iglesias.   Tigers' GM Dave Dombrowski said he wasn't prepared to answer questions about the report and the status of his young shortstop.  He says the team will have more information in a couple of days.
