Sports Roundup: Lions sign Safety
The Lions landed themselves a safety after signing free-agent James Ihedigbo yesterday after two-weeks of courting the player. The Lions outbid at least three other teams for the former Baltimore Ravens player. Ihedgibo replaces starting safety Louis Delmas, who was cut after the season.
The Detroit Lions will not pick up defensive tackle Nick Fairley's five-point-five-million-dollar option for 2015. At the NFL Annual Meetings in Orlando, Florida yesterday, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said the move was intended to motivate him to become the player the team believes he can be.
The Detroit Pistons beat the Utah Jazz 114-94. to end a four game road trip and break a 5-game losing streak. Rodney Stuckey added 19 points off the bench. Andre Drummond scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Greg Monroe had a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. It was the first road win for the Pistons in 14 tries. Detroit will host Cleveland tomorrow night at the Palace.
The Red Wings are at Columbus tonight. Detroit is tied for 7th in the Eastern Conference with Toronto, a point ahead of Washington and two points ahead of the Blue Jackets. That would put the Wings in the first Wild Card spot for the playoffs, if the season ended today.
Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist has been honored as the NHL's top star in their Three Stars of the Week. In the last week, Nyquist has scored six goals and added an assist helping Detroit earn seven points in four games, including wins over Toronto, Pittsburgh and Minnesota.

Fifth-seeded Michigan State advances to the second round of the NCAA tournament and plays North Carolina tonight at 7:10pm.

Michigan will play 11th-seeded Tennessee in the Sweet 16 Midwest Regional this Friday at 6:40 on Sports 930 the Score. If Michigan wins on Friday, Michigan will play on Sunday against the winner of the Louisville-Kentucky game.
Michigan State plays top-seeded Virginia in the East Regional. Broadcast time is Friday night at 9:00pm on WBCK. If the Spartans win, they will play the winner of the Iowa State/UConn game sometime on Sunday.
The Detroit Tigers return to the field at Joker Marchant Stadium to host the Atlanta Braves this afternoon, after rain cancelled yesterday's Grapefruit League game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Yesterday, Detroit completed a trade with the Baltimore Orioles for veteran shortstop Alex Gonzalez for utility man Steve Lombardozzi. Gonzalez is expected to share shortstop duties with Andrew Romine, who was acquired last week from the Angels after infielder Jose Iglesias was diagnosed with stress fractures in both legs
Tiger at the Masters?
Tiger Woods says it's still too early to determine his status for The Masters. Speaking at a press conference Monday to introduce a new sponsor for his tournament in Maryland, Woods was asked about his back injury. He says it's frustrating to not know how he will feel in April. Woods took this past weekend off after not playing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. The Masters gets underway April 10th at Augusta National.
