Red Wings

The Red Wings beat the Senators in Ottawa 6-1.  Johan Franzen scored twice in the first period and ended up with a hat trick.  Riley Sheahan and Tomas Jurco also lit the lamp in the first for Detroit.  Jonas Gustavsson made 37 saves in the win.  Detroit has won four-of-five dating back before the Olympic break.  Detroit is off until Tuesday, when they travel to New Jersey to face off against the Devils.

College Basketball

Michigan hosts Minnesota on Saturday at 5:30pm on Sports 930 the Score.  MSU plays host to Illinois at 3pm on WBCK-FM. 

Women’s Basketball

No. 21 Michigan State got its 20th win of the season and kept hope alive for a share of Big Ten Conference title with an easy, 75-44 win over Northwestern. Aerial Powers put up 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Michigan State.  With one game left in the regular season, the Spartans are tied with No. 11 Penn State and No. 17 Nebraska. Michigan State closes out the regular season at home Sunday against Indiana.

Girls Basketball – District Finals Tonight

In Class A, Gull Lake hosts Grand Ledge.   In Class B, Harper Creek plays at Parchment.  In Class D, Climax-Scotts will play Martin at St. Philip, Athens takes on Colon at Burr Oak and Bellevue plays Jackson Christian at Tekonsha.

Boys Basketball  

Lakeview beat Portage Northern 54-49 in our radio game last night.  Donnie Ernsberger had 18-points and 10-rebounds.  The Spartans finish the season at 9 and 11 meet Gull Lake in the first round of the districts Monday night at Mason.

Tigers

The Detroit Tigers beat the Atlanta Braves 5-2 yesterday in their Grapefruit League home opener at Joker Marchant Stadium.   Starter Rick Porcello went two innings, giving up one run on one hit while striking out three.  Austin Jackson went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.   The Tigers have split squad games today at home in Lakeland against the Yankees and on the road in Clearwater against the Phillies.  The first spring game on the radio is this Sunday against Atlanta.

Lions Snapper Re-Signs

Long snapper Don Muhlbach will return to the Lions next season. Muhlbach signed a one-year contract worth about one-million-dollars.  The 10-year veteran, who has been with Detroit for his entire NFL career, was instrumental in helping rookie punter Sam Martin become the first punter in Lions history to finish a season with a net punting average of over 40 yards. Muhlbach has played in 148 games and named to the Pro Bowl in 2012.

Incognito Smashes His Ferrari…with a bat

Police ins Scottsdale say soon-to-be former Dolphins guard Richie Incognito took a baseball bat to the front of his black Ferrari in front of his Arizona home on Wednesday.  Incognito, in the news for bullying a fellow Dolphins’ player admitted to police that he took  the bat to his own car.

Golf

Rory McIlroy fired a 7-under 63 on Thursday to take a 1-shot lead after the first round of the Honda Classic.

Pistons

The Detroit Pistons play the Rockets in Houston on Saturday.

Nascar

This Sunday Nascar goes west for the profit on CNBC 500 at Phoenix International.

MI Sports Hall of Fame

Nicklas Lidstrom, John Smoltz, Jim Brandstatter and Jason Hanson have earned a place among Michigan's all-time sports greats.    The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame is set to induct the trio, as well as four others, during a ceremony Friday night at the Max M.
