Tigers

The Tigers broke their 4-game losing streak with a win over Texas.  Anibal Sanchez went 7 innings, giving up just 5 hits striking out 5 and walking none.  The Rangers scored twice off Sanchez in the second, but Austin evened the score in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer. Ian Kinsler had 3 doubles against his old team and Torii Hunter knocked in two runs. Andrew Romine had his first career home run. NBA Playoffs

The Miami Heat and the Pacers play Game 3 tonight inMiami, with the series tied at a game each.    Indiana's Paul George has been cleared to play, following a concussion in Tuesday’s game. San Antoniohas a 2-0 lead in the series with Oklahoma City.  Game three is Sunday inOklahoma.

NHL Playoffs

The Kings host the Blackhawks tonight in LA, with Chicago up 2-1.  The Rangers host game four with Montreal tomorrow in New York, leading the best-of-seven series two games to one.

Racing

NASCAR goes to Charlotte Motor Speedway this Memorial Day weekend for Sunday night's running of the Coca Cola 600.   The Indy 500 is also this Sunday.

World Hockey

The 2014 Ice Hockey World Championships semi-finals are today inBelarus.   Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist and TeamSwedenskate againstRussia, while Wings defenseman Jakub Kindl and theCzechRepublictake onFinland. The Gold Medal game is set for Sunday.

Soccer Star Left Off Team

In a shock to U.S.soccer fans, Landon Donovan isn't going to the world cup in Brazil. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann decided other players in the talent pool had surpassed Donovan at his position as forward.  Donovan leads in scoring and assists for the United States soccer team, and is the only American player to reach the 50 goals, 50 assists mark.  After Landon Donovan was cut from the roster, the head coach’s 18-year old son, Jonathan, tweeted: “HHAHAHAHAHAHAH DONAVAN HAHAHAHAA I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE UNTIL PHONE NOTIFIED ME HAHA.” Then came the apology: “Yes, I deleted the tweet, Yes, I realize it was VERY classless. But again, my sincerest apologies to everyone who was offended.”

High School Baseball

St.Phillip swept Burr Oak on Friday.  Zach Nelson and Ian Mullis with pitching wins. Hunter Haley and Nick Hurst doing some damage with the bats.

Red Wings Emmerton to Russians

The Red Wings and  Kory Emmerton are parting ways.  The top draft choice from 2006 was waived twice last year and spent much of the season in Grand Rapids.  He’s signing a deal with an expansion team in Russia. The 25 year old Emmerton is a restricted free agent.  The Wings can hold on  his NHL rights if they make him a qualifying offer, but he doesn’t appear to be in Detroit’s future plans.

Pro Golf

A six million, four hundred thousand dollar purse is up for grabs at this weekend’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.  Brice Garnet leads by a stroke over Chris Stroud and Robert Streb after two days of play.

LPGA

Catriona Matthew remained atop the Airbus LPGA Classic leader board Friday, birdieing four of the last seven holes to take a one-stroke advantage over Charley Hull into the weekend.

Sterling to Sell Clippers

A person with knowledge of the negotiations tells The Associated Press that Donald Sterling is turning his ownership stake in the Los Angeles Clippers over to his estranged wife, and she is in talks with the NBA to sell the team. The person said the couple reached the agreement after weeks if discussion.Sterling was banned for life and fined $2.5 million by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver after the release of a recording last month in which Sterling made racist remarks involving blacks.

Senior PGA

Tom Watson shot a 3-under 68 on Friday for a share of the lead in the Senior PGA Championship with fellow Hall of Famers Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie and three other players.
