Tigers

The Tigers slipped back into second place by a game after a 3-0 loss to Kansas City. Detroit managed only 2 hits against starter James Shields, who struck out 8.  Rick Porcello went 6 2/3 innings and gave up 2 runs.  He struck out 7 but gave up 7 hits and took the loss. Joachim Soria returned from the DL, and was tagged with a triple by Lorenzo Cain that led to the Royals’ third run. Reliever Phil Coke left the game with back spasms after trying to field a bunt that left the bases loaded with nobody out in the 8th.   But Al Albuquerque got them out of that jam.  Detroit stays a half game ahead of Seattle for the final wild-card spot in the AL.  The Tigers are off today and start a weekend series with Cleveland in Detroit on Friday.   David Price gets the start for the Tigers.  Broadcast time is 6:40 on WBCK.
