The Tigers failed to score a run in Thursday’s game at Yankee Stadium, as they lose 1-0 and drop 3 out of 4 in the Bronx.    The Tigers scored just 5 runs in the four games.

Rick Porcello pitched 7 innings, striking out five and didn’t walk a batter.   But Yankees Rookie Shane Greene out-pitched Porcello, pitching 8 innings of shutout ball.

Eugenio Suarez and Torii Hunter were out of the lineup with injuries, and Miguel Cabrera was off until the 9th.   The Tigers put runners on first and second against Yankee closer David Robertson, with nobody out, Cabrera hit into a double play, and Donnie Kelly left Ian Kinsler standing on third.

The Tigers head to Toronto, and send Anibal Sanchez to the mound against R.A.Dickey.  Broadcast time is 6:40on WBCK.

Bombers  

The Battle Creek Bombers lost to the Green Bay Bullfrogs 13-4.   Tonight is the final home game of the Bombers season.

NABF Regional 

The BC Merchants lost toSaginaw6-2 at the NABF regional.  The Merchants need to win today to stay alive, as they hope to join host team HBC Behnke at the NABF World Series next week inBattle Creek.  It’s a double-elimination tournament inSaginaw.
Lions 
The Lions preseason game against the Browns Saturday is sold out.  Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.   The Lions have signed veteran cornerback Drayton Florence to a one-year deal.Florence played in eight games for the Lions in 2012 and started five games for the Carolina Panthers last year.  Former MSU Quarterback Brian Hoyer will start forCleveland, Johnny Manziel will start on the bench. Detroit rookies Nevin Lawson and Kyle Van Noy are looking forward to their first preseason game. Lions coach Jim Caldwell says it's important to see how the rookies match up with the speed of the NFL. Manziel is not expected to start.

Golf 
Ryan Palmer, Lee Westwood and Kevin Chappell are the first-round co-leaders after the first round of the PGA Championship, the final major of the PGA Tour season.  Tiger Woods struggled with his game and shot 74. Playing partner Phil Mickelson turned in a 2-under 69.

Germany's Sandra Gal shot a 6-under 65 to take the lead after the opening round of the Meijer LPGA Classic. That gives her a one-shot lead overInbeePark.  Michelle Wie, the U.S. Women's Open champ, had to withdraw after nine holes due to a wrist injury.

Coyotes Home Saturday

The Battle Creek Coyotes finish the regular season Saturday atHarperCreekHigh Schoolagainst the Michiana Thunderhawks.  It’ll be the First-Ever “Faith Night” Sponsored by Covenant Hope Church.  Bring in your church bulletin get in free to the game.   They’ll have a 50/50 Raffle and the prize is a Framed, Autographed, Photo of famed NFL Coach Tony Dungy.   There will be faith-based music playing during the game.  The 7-2 Coyotes are in the playoffs.

Durant Out of Dream Team

Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant has withdrawn from theU.S.national team, dealing yet another blow to the weakening American team. The NBA's MVP has informed USA Basketball that he is mentally and physically drained from the season.  His withdrawal comes less than a week afterIndiana's Paul George was lost to a broken right leg.

Donovan to Retire

American soccer star Landon Donovan is calling it a career. The 32 year old LA Galaxy forward will retire from professional soccer following the season.

The Detroit Pistons have hired former NBA star Tim Hardaway as an assistant coach. Hardaway averaged 17.7 points a game during an NBA career that lasted from 1989-2003.Detroithas also hired Malik Allen as an assistant coach, Jeff Nix as an assistant general manager and Quentin Richardson as director of player development.
