Tigers
The Detroit Tigers begin a six-game home stand as they host the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at Comerica Park. Detroit is coming off a weeklong west coast swing where it went 3-and-4 against the A's and Mariners, while Toronto has won five of its last seven.  Tonight, Anibal Sanchez gets the start for the Tigers.   Broadcast time is 6:40 on WBCK-FM.

Bombers win in 11

The Battle Creek Bombers scored in the bottom of the 11th last night to beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 5-4.  The Bombers jumped off to a 4-0 lead, with runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th.  Matt Dacey hitting a home run for Battle Creek.  But Wisconsin Rapids scored three in the sixth, and the Rafters’ Erik Payne tied the game in the 9th inning with a home run off reliever Joshua Leone.  But the Bombers scratched out the winning run in the 11th.  Henri Lartigue scored from second on a single from Laz Rivera and a bad throw from shortstop to give the Bombers the win. Leone pitched the final three innings for the win.  Battle Creek hosts the Rafters this morning at 10.  2600 students are expected at the game for Education Day.  The home stand continues Wednesday and Thursday as the Waterloo Bucks come into town.

Musial League Starts Tonight

Five teams will compete in Battle Creek’s Stan Musial division this year – the Merchants, HBC/Behnke’s, Hurricanes, Maroons and Diamonds Baseball.  The season gets underway tonight at Nichols Field.  

All-Star Voting

Angel’s outfielder Mike Trout continues to lead all American League players in voting for next month's All-Star Game. Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista is second and fellow Jay’s player Melky Cabrera is now third among outfielders.  Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera leads among first baseman, but second baseman Ian Kinsler has lost his lead over Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, A's third baseman Josh Donaldson, Orioles catcher Matt Wieters and Orioles designated hitter Nelson Cruz lead in voting for their positions.  Voting for this year's All-Star Game in Minnesota ends July 3rd.

NHL Playoffs

It’ll be a coast to coast Stanley Cup series:  New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings.  Game 1 is tomorrow night in LA.

NBA Playoffs

Game 1 of the NBA playoffs is Thursday, as the Miami Heat travel to San Antonio.

BC to Host Symetra Tour Event this Weekend

Battle Creek Country Club hosts the Fire Keepers Casino Hotel Golf Championship, a Symetra Tour event this weekend.  The tour is called the Road to the LPGA and will have an opening field of 144 female players from around the world.   The tourney will have a purse of $100,000. The top 10 money winners at season’s end on the Symetra Tour will gain their LPGA Tour cards for 2015.  One of the event’s two “exemption” players will be Lakeview grad Grace Labrecque, who just finished her junior year at CMU and Gabrielle Shipley, a standout at Hastings High who is now at Grand Valley State.

Lions Moves

Lion’s Defensive tackle Nick Fairley returned to the practice field yesterday, but has not been cleared to fully participate as he recovers from a surgical procedure for sleep apnea.  The Lions released defensive tackle Vaughn Martin and defensive end Kourtni Brown and added defensive end/outside linebacker Kalonji Kashama and receiver Cody Wilson.

Pistons GM Search

The Detroit Pistons may be closer to finding a new general manager. According to reports, Detroit is working on a deal to hire Jeff Bower. Bower resigned last night from his position as head coach of Marist College after one season. He was GM of New Orleans from 2005-10 and was interim coach for the then Hornets during the 2009-10 season. Stu Jackson and Scott Layden were also reported to be in the running for the job.

Marino on Lawsuit against NFL

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino is among 15 players filing a federal lawsuit against the NFL.  The suit claims the league concealed the risk of concussions among other allegations. The "Los Angeles Times" reports that the suit has been filed in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  Marino spent over a decade as an analyst with CBS after retiring from the NFL but was fired in February.

Battle Creek Coyotes Home Opener Saturday

The Battle Creek have their home opener Saturday at Harper Creek against the Indiana Cardinals.  Longtime fan Ron Ludwa will be the beneficiary for the home opener.
