Red Wings

The Red Wings beat the Florida Panthers 3-1.  Gustav Nyquist scored the go-ahead goal in the second period.  Nyquist has nine goals in his last nine games. Brian Lashoff and Daniel Alfredsson also scored and Jimmy Howard made 23 saves as the Red Wings ended a four-game road losing streak.  The Wings are at Tampa Bay to play the Lightning on Saturday, their last game for 18 days due to the Olympic break.

MSU

The MSU Spartans beat Penn State 82-67.  Adrien Payne was back in the lineup, but Keith Appling, who has been dealing with a wrist problem, sat out the game for the first time in his college career.  Kenny Kaminski scored a career-high 19 points for the Spartans.  MSU plays at Wisconsin on Sunday. Michigan plays at Iowa on Saturday….1:30pm on Sports 930 the Score.

Olympics

Nordic combined skier Todd Lodwick will be the U.S. flag bearer at today's Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics. The 37-year-old is set to become the first American to compete in six Winter Games.   Actual competition began before today's opening ceremonies at the Sochi Games, and the U.S. is playing catch-up in team figure skating. The U.S. is sitting seventh out of 10 teams with only the top five countries advancing to the free skate competition.  U.S. Olympians will have to make do without the team's official yogurt - depriving them of a source of protein and potentially disturbing their daily routines as they prepare for the biggest competition of their lives.   Some 5,000 cups of Greek yogurt from Team USA sponsor Chobani isn't getting to Sochi because of a customs dispute with Russia.
