World Series 

The Kansas City Royals stayed alive with a 10-0 shutout of the San Francisco Giants in Game Six of the World Series. Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer drove in two runs each during a seven-run second inning to chase starter Jake Peavy.  Peavy gave up 5 runs on 6 hits in just an inning and a third.  Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBI.   Mike Moustakas homered, doubled and drove in two for KC.  Yordano Ventura pitched a strong 7 innings for the win, giving up no runs and just 3 hits.  Its game seven tonight in KC.

Red Wings

The Red Wings play in Washington tonight. Both teams are 4-2-2 on the season so far.  The Wings sent forward Stephen Weiss to Grand Rapids for a conditioning stint.   He’s expected back this weekend, so the Wings still have a roster decision to make when they activate Johan Franzen.

Gordie Howe has a Stroke

Detroit Red Wings great Gordie Howe is recovering from a serious stroke. Howe suffered a stroke on Sunday in Texas and has lost some function on one side of his body and has difficulty speaking.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons are on the road to start the regular season tonight in Denver.  This marks the first game for new Detroit head coach Stan Van Gundy. After the game with the Nuggets, they’ll stop off in Minnesota tomorrow and head home for the home opener on Saturday against Brooklyn.  The Pistons finished last season with a 29-and-53 record, and have missed the playoffs the last five seasons.

The NBA season is underway after three games were played Tuesday night:

New Orleans Pelicans 101, Orlando Magic 84

San Antonio Spurs 101, Dallas Mavericks 100

Houston Rockets 108, LA Lakers 90.  The Lakers lose power forward Julius Randle with a broken leg.

College Football

Michigan State is resting with a bye coming up on Saturday. The eighth-ranked Spartans have won six straight and play at 13th-ranked Ohio State November 8th.  Michigan is back at the "Big House" this Saturday hosting Indiana.

The College Football Playoff selection committee released its first top-25 poll of the season Tuesday.  Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Ole Miss are in line to compete in college football's final four this season.  The College Football Playoff selection committee will release a new poll each week until ultimately selecting which four teams will compete in the national semifinals on Sunday, December 7th.

Volleyball

St. Philip split two matches as they beat St. Joseph 3-1 but lost to Grand Rapids Christian 1-3. Abby McKinzie had 38 kills, 29 digs and six aces.

Delton Kellogg beat Comstock in 3.  Faith Ferris with 12 kills.

Marshall Academy 3,   New Covenant Christian, 0 Maddy Swan 12 kills Carley Travis 8 Aces

Calhoun Christian 3, Factoryville 0. Mai Moody had 12 kills.

Athens 3, Reading 0  Teasha Swank had 21 kills, six digs and three blocks

Union City 3, Homer 1.

Lions

Reports say Lions’ defensive tackle Nick Fairley is expected to miss four to five weeks with sprained knee ligaments. The NFC North leading Lions are off this week and host the Dolphins November 9th.

High School Football Pairings

7-1 Lakeview will host Mattawan (6-3) in the first round at 7 p.m. Friday. That’ll be our WBCK radio game, Friday at 6:35.  Lakeview defeated Mattawan 38-12 in the regular season.

Harper Creek (5-4) at Plainwell (8-1) Friday at 7pm.

St. Philip (8-1) will host Waldron (7-2) in the first round. The Tigers defeated Waldron three weeks ago. Friday at 7pm.

Climax-Scotts (8-1) will host Pittsford (7-2).  Climax-Scotts beat Pittsford 44-14 in a regular season game. Friday at 7pm.

Homer (7-2) at Hudson (8-1). Friday at 7pm.

Union City (8-1) is home against Pewamo-Westphalia (7-2) Friday at 7pm.

Stockbridge (6-3) at Olivet (7-2).  Saturday at 1pm.

Nascar -Martinsville

The Chase heads to Texas next weekend for the second of three races in the Eliminator Round.
