MLB Playoffs

The Kansas City Royals sweep the Orioles in four straight, with a 2-1 win in Kansas City. Outfielder Lorenzo Cain was named Most Valuable Player of the ALCS.   Kansas City remains unbeaten this postseason, having won eight straight.  The Royals are headed to the World Series for the first time since 1985.

The Giants are one win away from the World Series. They used a three-run sixth inning to push past the Cardinals in Game Four of the NLCS from San Francisco.  Buster Posey drove in three runs to carry the Giants. San Francisco leads the best-of-seven series 3-1.  Game Five from AT&T Park is tonight.

Red Wings

The Red Wings lost to the Bruins in a 3-2 shootout. Tomas Tatar scored in the first period and Gustav Nyquist added a power play goal in the third to send the game to overtime.   Detroit missed both shots in the shootout round, while Boston scored twice to take the win. Jimmy Howard made 37 saves in the loss. Detroit will skate against Toronto in a home-and-home series starting Friday night and then play Montreal on the road next Tuesday.

Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons began a preseason road trip with a 104-84 win over the Hornets in Charlotte yesterday.  D.J. Augustin led Detroit with 16 points, Andre Drummond had 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Josh Smith also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pistons continue exhibition play against the Magic in Orlando tomorrow night.

Lion’s defensive end Ziggy Ansah has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.  Ansah had 2.5 sacks, five tackles and forced a fumble in the win over the Vikings.  An ankle sprain may keep Calvin Johnson out of Sunday’s game with New Orleans.   He said at practice Wednesday that there is no point in being on the field until he's able to go out and do what he does at a high level.
