MSU Basketball

The eighth-ranked Michigan State Spartans beat the Wisconsin Badgers 69-57.   Denzel Valentine led the Spartans with 24 points and 10 assists. Bryn Forbes added 17 points and Eron Harris had 10 points.  Wisconsin is 8-5 in the Big Ten.  The Spartans are 9-5.

Michigan State is off until Tuesday when they head to Ohio State.

EMU hosts Toledo on Saturday at noon.

Michigan is at Maryland on Sunday at 1pm.

Red Wings

The Red Wings lost 6-3 in Pittsburgh. Tomas Jurco, Dylan Larkin and Henrik Zetterberg scored for Detroit.  Petr Mrazek was pulled in the third period after stopping 26 of the 31 shots he faced, while Jimmy Howard closed out the game with six saves.  The Wings continue their four game road trip against the Senators in Ottawa Saturday.

NBA/Pistons

The Pistons traded for 25 year old 7-foot power forward Donatas Motiejunas and small forward Marcus Thornton. Houston gets the top-eight-protected pick and center Joel Anthony.  Motiejunas averaged a career-high 12.0 points last season, but hasn’t played much since a back injury sidelined him late in 2015. Thornton, 28, should give the Pistons some offensive help.  Anthony, a 33-year-old backup center, has barely played for the Pistons this season.

The Pistons had already acquired Tobias Harris from the Magic for Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings.   Harris practiced with the team yesterday and could make his Pistons debut tonight, as Detroit plays at Washington.
