No. 6 Michigan State beat Penn State 88-57 on Sunday.  Denzel Valentine started slow and finished strong with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists.  Valentine missed his first six shots and made more than half his shots the rest of the game.  Matt Costello added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the sixth-ranked Spartans.  They have won four straight to pull into a four-way tie for second place in the Conference.  Penn State coach Patrick Chambers was ejected with 4:53 left in the first half when he was called for two technical fouls within the same rant. Chambers had to be held back by his coaching staff as he tried to charge toward officials more than once before leaving the court.  The Spartans (24-5, 11-5 Big Ten) have won four straight and eight of nine.  MSU plays at Rutgers Wednesday.

Michigan lost to Wisconsin 68-57 on Sunday.  Zak Irvin had 14 points for the Wolverines, who have lost three of four to fall to 20-and-10 overall and 10-and-7 in the Big Ten. U-of-M hosts eighth-ranked Iowa on Saturday.

NBA/Pistons

The Pistons beat the Toronto Raptors 114-101 on Sunday night.  Reggie Jackson led all five starters in double figures with 19 points.  Andre Drummond had 15 points and 18 rebounds.  The score was tied at 52 at halftime before the Pistons broke it open with a 37-point third quarter.  Detroit (31-29) won its fourth straight game and moved into a virtual tie with Charlotte (30-28) and Chicago (30-28) for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.  The Pistons are at San Antonio Wednesday.

 

Red Wings

The Red Wings will try for their third straight win tonight against the Stars in Dallas. The puck drops at 8:30 p.m. Detroit defeated Colorado 5-3 in Saturdays' Stadium Series game at Coors Field, home to baseball's Rockies. The Red Wings are fourth in the Atlantic Division with 73 points, one behind Boston.

NFL Combine

Lions' brass get a final look at NFL prospects today at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Two groups of defensive backs will have their on-field workouts to wrap things up at Lucas Oil Stadium. The NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday, April 28th in Chicago.

Nascar

Jimmie Johnson won at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, for his 76th Cup victory, moving into a tie with the late Dale Earnhardt for seventh-most on the career list.   Johnson won in overtime under yellow after the only wreck of the day, with teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. finishing second.

Golf

Adam Scott made a big statement at the Honda Classic, closing with an even-par 70 to win in just his third start since a new rule banning the anchored stroke for the long putter he had used the past five years. Scott rolled in a 30-inch par putt for a one-shot victory over Sergio Garcia - his first using a conventional putter since the 2010 Singapore Open.  Justin Thomas closed with a 69 and tied for third with Blayne Barber at four shots back.

Tigers

The Tigers’ first spring game is today versus Florida Southern.  The Tigers first official spring game is tomorrow against the Pirates at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. The Tigers begin the regular season April 5th at Miami.
