The Tigers lost 7-4 as the Cleveland Indians clinched the Central Division title.   With the loss, the Tigers fall 2 games behind Baltimore for the second wild-card spot.   Buck Farmer started for Detroit and gave up four runs in five innings.   Ian Kinsler went 3 for 5, Miguel Cabrera had two hit and knocked in two runs, and J. D. Martinez hit a two run homer.   The Tigers made it 5-4 in the 7th, but the Indian’s bullpen did the job where the Tigers’ did not.   Game two of the four-game series is tonight in Detroit.  Justin Verlander will start for the Tigers. Broadcast time is 6:45 on WBCK.   The Tigers have six games left, three at home with the Indians and the final three in Atlanta.  Baltimore has six games left, against the Blue Jays and Yankees.

Marlins Honor Jose Fernandez

The Marlins were winners in their first game since ace pitcher Jose Fernandez and two others were killed in a boating accident near Miami early Sunday morning.  The Marlins wore jersey No. 16 to honor Fernandez and formed a circle around the mound before placing the ball at the pitching rubber following their 7-3 victory over the New York Mets.  Dee Gordon led off the bottom of the first with a homer and was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Monday Night Football

The Atlanta Falcons are 2-1 after Tevin Coleman had three touchdown runs and Devonta Freeman rushed for 152 yards in a 45-32 victory over the winless Saints at New Orleans. Matt Ryan finished with 240 yards passing and two TDs for the Falcons, who also scored on Deion Jones' 90-yard interception return. Drew Brees threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns but had a costly interception that let the Falcons take a 45-25 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Lions Football

The Lions are 1-2 and head to Chicago to play the winless Bears this Sunday.  Broadcast time is 12 noon on 104.9 The Edge.

College Football

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh says starting cornerback Jeremy Clark suffered a torn knee ligament against Penn State and is likely done for the season.  Harbaugh said junior Brandon Watson and freshmen David Long and Levert Hill will be called on to help make up for the loss. He also said they’ll look into the possibility of a medical hardship ruling, which could grant Clark a sixth year of eligibility.  #4 Michigan hosts #8 Wisconsin this Saturday in Ann Arbor.  Hear the game at 2:30 on 104.9 The Edge.

Girls’ Golf

The Lakeview girl’s golf team won the SMAC East Division Jamboree to win the division. McKenna Evans shot a 42 to lead the Spartans.

Athens 3, Colon 0.  Josie Lamson had 21 assists and nine digs and Tayler Eytsey had six kills and 11 digs.

Bosh Done in Miami?

Miami Heat President Pat Riley has told reporters that he believes Chris Bosh has played his last game for the team, saying the team is "not working toward his return." Bosh has seen each of his last two seasons end prematurely with blood clots that forced him to be shut down. The veteran forward recently said he felt like he could rejoin the club this season, but he reportedly failed his preseason physical last week.

Pistons Drummond Using Free Throw Technology

Andre Drummond hopes some advanced technology can help him with his free throws. The Detroit center has been using virtual reality in an effort to improve his performance at the line. Drummond has made 38 percent of his free throws for his career, and it's an issue that's sometimes caused Coach Stan Van Gundy to take him out down the stretch in games.

Arnold Palmer Memorial Service

The family of Arnold Palmer has announced plans for a memorial service.  They’re waiting until after the Ryder Cup this week for a public farewell. Alastair Johnston, the chief executive of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, said yesterday at a news conference that a public ceremony to commemorate Palmer would be held Oct. 4 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
