The Tigers were shut out by the Angels in a 5-0 game on Sunday.  Tiger starter Anibal Sanchez kept the Angels off the scoreboard thru the first five. But Tyler Skaggs shut down the Detroit offense in his six innings. Detroit was shut out for the 9th time this season.  Former Tiger Jefry Marte had three RBI.  Marte hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning off Sanchez.  He played in 33 games with the Tigers last season. The Angels added three more runs in the sixth, on sacrifice flies by Andrelton Simmons and Marte, plus an RBI double by Nick Buss.  The Tigers remain 4 ½ behind first-place Cleveland in the Central Division, but lost out on a chance to gain two games as the Tribe lost to the Rangers on Saturday and Sunday.  The Tigers are two games out of Wild-Card contention.  The White Sox come to Comerica Park tonight, as Matt Boyd starts against James Shields.  Broadcast time is 6:45 on WBCK.

NASCAR

Kyle Larson took the lead on a restart with nine laps remaining and held off Chase Elliott at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday in a duel between two of NASCAR's up-and-coming standouts. Elliott had a comfortable lead before a tire problem on Michael Annett's car brought out the yellow flag. Larson had the better restart and went on to win by 1.48 seconds.  Michigan resident Brad Keselowski finished third. Keselowski's Number 2 Ford failed post-race laser inspection.  Larson's victory in his Number 42 Chevrolet snapped a 99-race losing streak for Chip Ganassi Racing.  Larson secured a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup with two races left in the regular season. Elliott remains winless, but is in solid shape to make the Chase field on points if need be.

Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck said he would have no comment.

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick says he plans to continue to sit during the playing of the national anthem before NFL games, even if it costs him his job. The biracial Kaepernick is protesting what he considers unpunished police brutality against minorities in the country by refusing to stand for the anthem.
