Sports: Tigers lose 12-1 in KC
Tigers
The Tigers lost to the Royals 12-1 in Kansas City. The Royals scored in each of the first five innings including five in the fourth and three in the fifth. Randy Wolf started for the Tigers gave up 8 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings to fall to 0-3. Royals’ starter Yordano Ventura struck out 11 Tigers and gave up just one run on 5 hits. The 24-year-old with the 100 mph fastball has not allowed more than two earned runs in his last five outings, and is 6-0 since his last defeat July 20 against Pittsburgh. Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera was tossed by third base umpire Gary Cederstrom after striking out in the third inning. Tonight, Matt Boyd starts for Detroit against Edison Volquez for KC. Lions
The Lions wrap up the preseason against the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field on tonight. With the top of the roster already in place, most starters will see very limited, if any, action. That allows opportunities for the players battling to make the roster to make an impact on Jim Caldwell and the coaching staff. Kickoff is 7:30pm Eastern.
College Football
Tonight the Michigan Wolverines open the season at Utah. Jake Rudock and Shane Morris were listed as co-No. 1 quarterbacks on the depth chart released Monday. Harbaugh says that Rudock and Morris know which one of them will start against the Utes, but so far he’s not saying who it will be.
Broadcast time is 7:30pm on WBXX 104.9.
Michigan State plays the Friday night at Western Michigan. The Spartans are 18 point favorites. This will be the 15th meeting between the two schools, with MSU holding a 12-2 advantage. Broadcast time Friday is 5:30pm on WBCK.

The judge in the Tom Brady - Roger Goodell face-off is promising a decision by Friday. If he rules against Brady - experts say Brady will probably appeal and it could drag on for another year.

The second of four FedExCup Playoff events gets underway Friday with the Deutsche Bank Championship. Up for grabs are 2,000 FedExCup points and a share of 8 ¼ million dollars. The winner gets about 1 ½ million.
