Sports: Tigers Lose 7-2; Head to New York

The Tigers five-game winning streak ended with a 7-2 loss to Toronto.  Starter Jordan Zimmerman gave up seven runs and eight hits in 4 2-3 innings — including two triples and two homers.  He has allowed seven or more runs twice in his last four outings, and his ERA has risen to 3.30 from 1.10 on May 6.  Nick Castellanos accounted for both Tiger runs with a 2-run homer in the first.  The Tigers are off today and head to the Bronx to play the Yankees.  Broadcast time Friday night is 6:40pm on WBCK.

Bombers

The Battle Creek Bombers won their fourth straight, topping the Wisconsin Woodchucks, 7-0 at C.O. Brown Stadium. The Bombers put together six hits to score five runs in the bottom of the third.  Scott Sency picked up the win, throwing six scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing just four hits. Yu-Hsaun Chen pitched three scoreless innings in relief as the two combined for Battle Creek's first shutout of the season.

The Bombers and Woodchucks play the final game of the two-game set tonight at C.O. Brown Stadium at 7:05.   After tonight, Battle Creek heads off on an eight-game road trip.

NBA

The Cleveland Cavaliers ripped Golden State 120-90 to get within two games to one in the NBA Finals.   LeBron James poured in 32 points and Kyrie Irving added 30.

The Cavs limited Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to a combined 35 points on 12-for 34 shooting.  The Cavaliers were without forward Kevin Love, who suffered a concussion in Game 2 and was not cleared by doctors after taking part in the team's morning shoot-around.  Game 4 is Friday night in Cleveland.

NHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins can win the Stanley Cup tonight as they host game 5. lead the San Jose Sharks 3-1.

College Softball

Oklahoma beat Auburn 2-1 to win softball’s national championship series.  It was the Sooners’ third national title.

LPGA

The complete field for the 2016 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give was announced for the event that runs Tuesday through Sunday at Blythefield Country Club. The third-year event has drawn its strongest field to-date, including every player who has won on Tour this season. The field will consist of 10 of the Top 10 and 43 of the Top 50 on the 2016 Money List. Included in the field are world No. 1 Lydia Ko, 2015 Meijer LPGA Classic Champion Lexi Thompson and 2014 Meijer LPGA Classic Champion Mirim Lee.  Tickets are still available at meijerLPGAclassic.com.

Nascar

Kyle Larson's crew chief is fourth crew chief suspended this season by NASCAR over loose lug nuts.  Chad Johnston was also fined $20,000 and will miss Sunday's race at Michigan.  NASCAR began checking cars for properly affixed lug nuts last month after Tony Stewart suggested there was lax enforcement of what he deemed to be a safety issue. Since NASCAR reduced officials on pit road, the sanctioning body no longer ensured teams had the maximum amount of lug nuts (five per tire) as drivers left pit road.

Teams then began skipping lug nuts in an effort to have faster pit stops. Stewart was fined for his criticism, but NASCAR began checking for lug nuts the next week.

OSU Beer Sales

Ohio State fans will soon be able to have a beer anywhere in Ohio Stadium during football games.  The university says beer will be sold stadium-wide during the 2016 football season. The sale of alcohol began last year for patrons with tickets in the suite and club levels of the stadium. Officials say proceeds from the sales will pay for two new full-time university police officers at a cost of about $300,000. Another $50,000 from the game-day beer is being dedicated for two years to pay for a study on alcohol consumption and how its presence affects public events.  The university also has announced stricter limits on bags carried into the stadium. Exceptions will be made for those who need medical items for child-care supplies.
