The Tigers’ catcher James McCann was hit by a pitch on Thursday.   He’ll go on the 10-day disabled list after the hand was cut and needed five stitches.  John Hicks was called up from Toledo to catch a game today in Chicago.  With Buck Farmer being recalled as the Tigers’ 26th man for today’s doubleheader, the Tigers may have to make a tough roster decision today.

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Houston Astros, 7-6, in the last game of the four game series, Thursday evening, in Houston.   The Astros hit three home runs and scored five off Justin Verlander in the fourth inning.

The Tigers got home runs from J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton.  Upton had three hits.  J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias each had two hits.  The Tigers have dropped to 4 ½ behind the Twins in the AL Central and begin a four game series against the Chicago White Sox with a double-header today.  Buck Farmer starts game 1 at 4:45 PM on 95.3 WBCK.  Matt Boyd gets the call for game two.

NHL Playoffs

The Pittsburgh Penguins are headed to the Stanley Cup Finals and will host the Nashville Predators starting Monday.  Chris Kunitz scored at 5:09 of double-overtime to give the Penguins a 3-2 win over Ottawa in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals.  

Griffins Host Barracuda

The Grand Rapids Griffins host San Jose tonight in game 4 of the AHL’s Western Conference finals.  The Griffins have a 2-1 lead over the Barracuda  in the  best of seven series.

NBA Playoffs

It’ll be the Cavaliers and Warriors in the NBA finals for a third straight year.  LeBron James scored 35 points and the Cavs beat the Celtics, 135-102 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals.  James hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter to pass Michael Jordan as the NBA's all-time scoring leader in postseason play.  

Homer’s Collmenter Released

Former Homer High School pitcher Josh Collmenter has been designated for assignment and will be released by the Atlanta Braves.  In his final game with the Braves, he allowed seven runs on three home runs as the Braves lost to the Pirates.   The 31 year old Collmenter made his debut in the majors in 2011. 

Michigan out of Big Ten Baseball Tourney

Indiana beat Michigan 5-4 in 13 innings Thursday, eliminating the second-seeded Wolverines from the Big Ten Baseball Tournament.
