The Tigers now trail first place Cleveland by 3 games in the American League Central.   The Tigers beat the White Sox 11-5 while Cleveland lost to the Twins 10-6.   It was the Tigers 7th win in a row. The Tigers were down 1-0 and finally got it going in the 5th against James Shields.

Miguel Cabrera slugged his third home run in two games and had an RBI double.

Victor Martinez also hit a homer and had an RBI double.  Anibal Sanchez allowed one run over six innings and got his first win as a starter since late April. Michael Fulmer starts for the Tigers tonight.  Broadcast time is 6:45 on WBCK.

Tiger Injuries

Tiger starter Jordan Zimmerman will rejoin the team in time to start Thursday afternoon’s series finale against Chicago.  Zimmerman has been on a rehab assignment after injuring his neck.   The Tigers have placed starter Mike Pelfrey on the 15 day disabled list with a lower back strain. J. D. Martinez will be activated for tonight’s game.  Indians All-Star pitcher Danny Salazar has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

Bombers

The Battle Creek Bombers lost to the Mankato Moondogs in an 11-inning walk-off, 6-5 Tuesday night at Franklin Rogers Park.  The Moondogs loaded the bases in the 11th, and got a base hit for the win.   The Bombers fall to 31-29 on the season and 13-11 in the second half.  The Bombers will go for the series split Wednesday night at 8:05 as they send Malcolm Grady to the hill at Franklin Rogers Park.

Tigers Minor Leaguer Suspended

Detroit pitcher Drake Britton has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for amphetamines under minor league baseball's drug testing policy. Britton has gone 0-3 this year in relief for Triple-A Toledo.

Yankees-A-Rod

The Yankees don't plan to give Alex Rodriguez many more at-bats as they begin their rebuilding phase. The 41-year-old A-Rod has struck out in five of his six at-bats since July 22 and is hitting just .205 this season. Rodriguez has a $20 million salary this year and is owed $20 million in 2017, the final season of his $325 million, 10-year deal.

Langs Gets Head Coaching Job

Climax-Scotts graduate Jordan Langs has been hired as the first head coach of the Indiana Wesleyan University football program. Langs, who played for his dad Kevin at Climax-Scotts - is a current assistant coach at Wheaton College.

Lions

The Detroit Lions have made several moves -- signing wide receiver Damian Copeland just days after releasing him following their signing of Anquan Boldin. The Lions also waived receiver Ryan Spadola.

NABF Series

HBC/Behnke will be the host team in the NABF World Series, which starts tonight and goes through Sunday at Battle Creek’s Bailey Park.  The 103rd World Series will see twelve of the best amateur teams in the United States battle for the title over the 5-day, 25 game contest. Battle Creek Mayor Dave Walters has proclaimed this week “National Amateur Baseball Week” and will throw out the first pitch Wednesday night HBC-Behnke battles last year’s champs.  Every game of the 103rd World Series will be streamed live on the internet via GameAction360. Nascar

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will miss at least two more races while he recovers from a concussion. Earnhardt skipped the last three races and will continue to be replaced by four-time series champion Jeff Gordon behind the wheel in the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. Earnhardt said on his weekly podcast that he continues to experience issues with balance and gaze stabilization.
