The Tigers cruised to an easy 12-0 win over the Indians, as Cleveland rested most of its regulars, a day after clinching the AL Central Division.  Justin Verlander was lights-out for the Tigers, as he worked 7 2/3 innings and struck out 12 for his 16th win against 8 losses. Miguel Cabrera provided a lot of the hitting, knocking in five runs.  Cabrera’s double in first inning and 35th home run in the second gave him 102 RBI on the season and gave Verlander all the runs he needed for the win.  Justin Upton added a home run in the 7th.   Nick Castellanos arrived from injury rehab during the game and hit a pinch hit double and scored.  Andrew Romine also homered for Detroit.  Baltimore lost to Toronto, so the Tigers are one game out of the Wild Card spot.  The Tigers have five games left, two at home with the Indians and the final three in Atlanta.  Baltimore has 5 games left, against the Blue Jays and Yankees.  Michael Fulmer starts tonight for the Tigers. Broadcast time is 6:45 on WBCK.

MLB Standings

The Boston Red Sox were unable to clinch the American League East title on Tuesday as they lost to the Yankees 6-4.  Cleveland, Boston and Texas are in the post-season.   The Blue Jays and Baltimore have a slight lead over the Tigers and Mariners for the AL Wildcard spot.

The New York Mets continue to lead the two National League wild-card races, a half-game ahead of San Francisco and 1 ½ games in front of St. Louis.  The Nationals, Cubs and Dodgers are already assured of making the post-season.

Lions Football

The Detroit Lions have signed wide receiver Aaron Dobson again after waiving him last week.

Detroit also signed linebacker Zaviar Gooden to the practice squad. He was waived by the Lions on Monday.  Dobson appeared in eight games last season for New England and finished with 13 receptions for 141 yards.  The Lions are 1-2 and head to Chicago to play the winless Bears this Sunday.  Broadcast time is 12 noon on 104.9 The Edge.
