The Tigers beat the Pirates 2-0 in a pitching duel last night in Pittsburgh. Detroit scored the first run of the game in the 7th inning on a clutch hit by Rajai Davis. The Tigers added an insurance run in the 9th. Jose Iglesias legged out a double and scored on an Ian Kinsler single. Shane Greene out-dueled A.J. Burnett, going 8 shutout innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter.  Greene struck out three while giving up just three hits and no walks as he moved to 2-and-0. Joakim Soria closed it out for his third save.  A.J. Burnett fanned eight in six-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball. The Tigers and Pirates play again tonight inPittsburgh.,Alfredo Simon will take the mound for the Tigers, up against Francisco Liriano of the Pirates.  Broadcast time is 6:45pm on WBCK.

Pistons

The Detroit Pistons visit New York to play the Knicks tonight in their final game of the season. The Pistons will not make the playoffs for the sixth straight season.

Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings start the playoffs in Tampa on Thursday. Petr Mrazek will make his Stanley Cup playoff debut, getting the nod over veteran Jimmy Howard. Howard said the move will serve as further motivation as he continues to work on his game.  Four playoff series are set to begin on Wednesday. Ottawa will visit Montreal, the New York Islanders travel to Washington, Chicago visits Nashville, and Calgary will clash against the Canucks in Vancouver.

KCC Baseball

The KCC Baseball team took two from Grand Rapids, 11-1 and 19-12.  Travis Bolin went two for three in game one, as Kyle Mallwitz got the pitching win, allowing just one run.  Alex Goodwin went 3 for 4 in game 2. The Bruins are 12-2 in the conference and 19-12 overall.

KCC Softball

KCC’s softball team beat Jackson CC, 12-0 and 9-1. Holly Van Tilburg pitched both 4-inning games, allowing just one run and striking out 12.  Mary Emmington hit three home runs and knocked in 6 runs.  Elizabeth Albaugh hit two homers and knocked in 8 runs.   KCC is 18-2 in the conference.

MSU Player Pleads Guilty to Littering….gets off the hook

Michigan State wide receiver Macgarrett Kings Jr. pleaded guilty to littering in public in exchange for two misdemeanor charges being dropped. Court records show 21-year-old Kings of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida admitted responsibility to littering in public in exchange for the dismissal of a charge of drunk and disorderly conduct and resisting a police officer.

Jackie Robinson Day

The famous second baseman broke Major League Baseball's color barrier when he first played for the Brooklyn Dodgers on this date in 1947. Today ALL uniformed Major League ballplayers will wear Robinson's jersey number (42) in his honor.
