The Tigers opened a four-game set with the Houston Astros with a dramatic walk-off homer in the 11th inning and a 6-5 win.  The Tigers built a 5-0 lead for starter David Price.  Price left after 6 2/3 innings, after giving up 3 runs in the 7th.  But the Astros scored two more runs to send it into extra innings.  Closer Joakim Soria blew his first save of the season for the Tigers. Pinch hitter Preston Tucker tied it with one out in the ninth, connecting off Joakim Soria for his first career homer. In the 11th, rookie catcher James McCann won it with one swing of the bat. Alex Wilson got the win for the Tigers, with two innings of scoreless relief pitching.  Alfredo Simon gets the call for the Tigers tonight.  Broadcast time is 6:40 p.m. on WBCK.

Rondon Pitches for Toledo

Tigers’ Bruce Rondon made his first rehab appearance in the 7th inning for the Mud Hens last night.  The hard-throwing right hander gave up a leadoff hit to Jose Reyes, and a double following an error as Buffalo tied it at 5.  He threw a lot of 22 pitches in the inning before Jeff Zeid came in to get the final out.  The Hens lost the game.

NHL

The Anaheim Ducks have taken a two-games-to-one lead in the NHL's Western Conference finals by beating the Blackhawks 2-1 in Chicago. Simon Depres scored the game-winner to help Anaheim bounce back from its triple-overtime loss in Game 2.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven over the New York Rangers. Game Four is tonight in Tampa.

Red Wings Coach Search

Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says he will take some time before naming former coach Mike Babcock's replacement.  Babcock is leaving Detroit after ten seasons to take the helm of the Toronto Maple Leafs for a reported 50-million-dollars over the next eight years.  Holland said yesterday he has told Grand Rapids coach Jeff Blashill that he's the first person he will talk with about the position.

He served as an assistant coach for Babcock in 2011 before moving on to the Wings AHL affiliate. Blashill led Grand Rapids to the Calder Cup in 2013 and the Griffins are continuing their run in the playoffs this season

Wings Ink Larkin

The Detroit Red Wings have signed center Dylan Larkin to a three-year entry-level contract.  The 18-year-old Waterford native spent the last season playing with the University of Michigan.  While with the Wolverines, Larkin was ranked 11th nationally in scoring was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. He has also signed an amateur tryout with the Wings AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins and will be available to play this weekend as the team begins their Western Conference finals series with Utica.

The Grand Rapids Griffins continue their run in the Calder Cup playoffs this weekend. The Griffins will face off with the Utica Comets in Game One of the Western Conference finals Sunday in New York. Game Two will also be played on the road Monday before the series shifts to Grand Rapids for Game Three next Thursday.  This is the first playoff meeting between the Griffins and the Comets.

NBA

Stephen Curry shot 5-for-11 from 3-point range and finished with 33 points and six assists as the Golden Warriors held off Houston 99-98 to take a two-games-to-none lead in the NBA's Western Conference finals.

Cleveland leads Atlanta 1-0 in their series and game two is in Atlanta tonight.

College Baseball

Cody Bruder and Kendall Patrick hit home runs, leading Michigan to an 8-5 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday night. Michigan next plays on Saturday. They will face either Illinois, Michigan State or Maryland.

Ryan Krill hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning in Michigan State's 9-7 win. Joe Mockbee retired 11 of 13 batters in 3 2-3 innings of relief for the fifth-seeded Spartans.  Today, Michigan State will play the Illinois, after the Ilini had their 27 game winning streak ended last night by Maryland.

College Softball

The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan softball team used a couple big innings, including a four-run first, to claim a 10-3 decision against No. 14 Georgia in its NCAA Super Regional opener last night at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.

The win gives the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. The teams will square off again tonight for game two at 6:00 p.m.

NASCAR

This Sunday drivers head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for Memorial Day weekend and the year's longest race, the Coca Cola 600.

Jeff Gordon will join Fox as a full-time analyst in 2016, when he will join Mike Joy and Darrell Waltrip in the three-man booth.

Gordon, who signed a multiyear contract with Fox, is retiring at the end of this season.

Indy 500 Sunday

This Sunday is the running of the Indianapolis 500.

Golf

Massy Kuramoto is the first-round leader in the Senior PGA Championship at Pete Dye Course in French Lick, Indiana.
