Hatch to work with Michigan Team

University of Michigan freshman guard Austin Hatch is ending his basketball career and will be an undergraduate student assistant coach in the upcoming season.  Hatch survived two plane crashes and recovered from life threatening injuries before making his debut with the Wolverines last December.  In making the announcement yesterday, Michigan head coach John Beilein said the decision to change the guard's status was difficult, but will allow him to keep his scholarship and obtain his degree from U of M.  Beilein also said the move will let Hatch participate in training and practice and allow him to travel with the team.

Michigan in the running for Top Recruit

One of the top recruits in the country has narrowed his decisions of schools down to five, and the Michigan Wolverines are on the list.  Forward Jaylen Brown, the top unsigned 2015 prospect in America out of Marietta, Georgia, is no longer including Georgia, Georgia Tech, and UCLA among his list of possible destinations. If true, that shrinks Brown's list down to California, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan and North Carolina.  The 6-foot-7 small forward ranks No. 2 among 2015 prospects in the 247 Sports Composite ranking and is rated as the No. 1 overall member of his class by Scout.com.

Tiger Injuries

Tigers officials said yesterday that starting pitcher Justin Verlander's right triceps injury is slowly healing. Verlander had a second MRI late last week and the test showed less inflammation in his arm. He has not thrown a ball since mid-April, and a timetable for his return has not been set.

Outfielder Rajai Davis left Detroit's 8-6 win over Cleveland Sunday with tightness in his groin and was cleared to play against the Twins last night, but was held out as a precaution.
