Team USA beat Russia 5-3 in the hockey world championship in Cologne, Germany. Coach Jeff Blashill’s crew came back three times to hand Russia its first defeat. The Americans are on top of Group A after a sixth straight win.

Kevin Hayes scored two goals in his second game.  Hayes joined the team after his Rangers were eliminated in the NHL playoffs.  The U.S. outshot Russia by 35 to 19. Jimmy Howard got the win in goal for the US team.   Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin scored a goal.   He has 10 points, ninth most among all players in the tournament.  The USA heads to the quarterfinals on Thursday.

KCC Baseball Wednesday

The KCC Bruins baseball team starts play in the National Junior College Tournament today, when they take on Macomb Community College.  First pitch is 11:30am at C.O. Brown Stadium.  The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday.  The winner heads to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Oklahoma, starting May 27th.

NBA Playoffs

Golden State leads San Antonio two games to none in the Western Conference Finals. Stephen Curry had 29 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in just three quarters as the Warriors beat the Spurs, 136-100.

The Boston Celtics host the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals tonight.

NBA Draft Lottery

The Pistons had no luck in the NBA Draft Lottery, getting the 12th pick.  The Boston Celtics, as a result of a trade with Brooklyn, landed the No. 1 pick this summer. The 2013 deal sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets. The Lakers will have the second pick in the draft, followed by the 76ers, Suns and Kings.

NHL Playoffs

The Nashville Predators have a two-games-to-one lead in the NHL's Western Conference finals.  They scored twice in the third period to beat Anaheim 2-1. Roman Josi's power-play goal broke a 1-1 deadlock after Filip Forsberg tied it early in the third.

Ottawa will host Pittsburgh in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals tonight.  Each team has one win so far.

High School Baseball 

Marshall swept Harper Creek 3-2 and 8-1 to grab at least a share of the I-8 title.

Lakeview swept Loy Norrix, 10-1 and 7-0.  Complete game wins for Taylor Perret and Ethan Eldridge.

St. Philip beat Tekonsha 6-0 and 7-1. Ben Swagler tripled and had four stolen bases.

Athens swept Jonesville and Homer took two from Union City.

Harper Creek beat Marshall 5-4 and 16-13. Olivia Orr had a complete-game win.

Lakeview and Loy Norrix split two.

Tigers

The Tigers lost a tough 13 inning game to Baltimore at Comerica Park, 13-11.  The Orioles scored seven runs in the third to knock Matt Boyd out of the game, but the Tigers answered with three in their third on home runs from Victor and J.D. Martinez and it was 7-4.  Chad Bell came on and slammed the door on the hot-hitting Orioles for four innings.  In the 7th inning, Baltimore reliever Mychal Givens walked the bases loaded and J.D. Martinez hit a grand slam to put Detroit ahead 8-7.   But the Orioles' Mark Trumbo hit a two out home run in the 9th off Justin Wilson to send the game to extra innings.  In the 12th Baltimore scored three off Blaine Hardy on a Chris Davis homer. In the bottom of the 12th, the Tigers put together five hits to tie it at 11.  But in the 13th, after a double off  Francisco Rodriguez, Chris Davis did it again, a home run off K-Rod and the Tigers lost 13-11.  The Tigers take on the Orioles again, Wednesday night. Pistons New Logo Unveiled

The Detroit Pistons' new logo looks a lot like their old logo.  The team as officially unveiled an updated logo, although a picture of it accidentally slipped out recently on a merchandising website.   The team says they worked with the NBA and Nike on the logo over the course of six-months.  The logo is similar to a logo the team used from 1979-96, with the team's name written on a red basketball background with a blue ring surrounding the ball.  The Pistons begin playing in Little Caesar's Arena in downtown Detroit next season, and share the venue with the Detroit Red Wings.
