Tigers

The Tigers beat the White Sox 7-4 to split the 4-game series.   Victor Martinez hit a two run shot in the first, the 200th home run of his career, making him the sixth Venezuelan born player to reach the milestone.  J.D. Martinez also had two RBI and Nick Castellanos, Alex Avila and Ian Kinsler each hit in a run.  Justin Verlander picked up his fourth win of the season, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out eight in seven innings.  The Tigers are off today and welcome the Twins Friday night for the final home series of 2015.   Next week, the Tigers head to Texas and Chicago for the final 6 games of the 2015 season.

Red Wings

The Red Wings won their preseason home opener 4-1 over the Blackhawks in the second of a home-and-home Wednesday night. Tomas Tatar had a hat trick and Justin Abdelkader also lit the lamp for Detroit. Jared Coreau got the start in net for the Wings and allowed one goal on 15 shots and Petr Mrazek stopped all 16 shots he faced.

Detroit hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.

Thursday Night Football

An NFC East rivalry will be renewed when the Giants host the Redskins on "Thursday Night Football."

Lions

The Lions were still without a few key players in practice Wednesday as they get ready for their home opener against the Broncos Sunday night. Linebacker DeAndre Levy, who has been sidelined since the preseason with a hip injury, says he's getting close to returning. Defensive end Ziggy Ansah, with a back injury and tight end Brandon Pettigrew, with a hamstring issue, did not practice yesterday.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford was a full participant in drills despite dealing with sore ribs this week. Wednesday, Stafford said he feels pretty good and plans to just go out and play his game this weekend against Denver.   The Lions host the Denver Broncos Sunday night.
