Red Wings

The Red Wings beat the Lightning 3-1 last night at Joe Louis Arena.

Gustav Nyquist had a power play goal late in the second period. Henrik Zetterberg scored at full strength in the third. Kyle Quincey notched an empty net goal with less than two minutes left in the game. Jimmy Howard stopped 20 shots on goal in the win.

Red Wings forward Johan Franzen was a late scratch because of illness. It’s not known if it is related to the concussion issues which ended his last January. The Carolina Hurricanes come to town on Friday. Detroit is 3-0.

Pistons

The Pistons fell to 1-3 in preseason play after a 101-97 loss to the Pacers in Indianapolis last night. Three Detroit players ended the game with 17 points including Andre Drummond, who also grabbed 21 rebounds. Reggie Jackson had 17 points and seven assists for Detroit. Ersan Ilyasova added 17 points off the bench. The Pistons continue their three-game road trip tonight against the Bulls in Chicago.

Baseball

The Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6 to 4 in Game 4 to win the National League Division Series last night. It’s the first time they've ever clinched a postseason series at Wrigley Field since it opened in 1914, a 101 year drought. Cubs’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit one of three Cubs homers.

The Mets and Dodgers will play a game 5. Clayton Kershaw struck out eight over seven innings of one-run ball as the Dodgers won 3-1. The Dodgers will host the win-or-go-home game Thursday night. The winner plays the Cubs on Saturday.

The Astros and Royals play a deciding game 5 tonight in Kansas City.

The Blue Jays host the Rangers in game 5 on today at 4pm in Toronto.

Lions

The Lions host the Bears this Sunday. Quarterback Matthew Stafford leads the league with eight interceptions, but Coach Jim Caldwell says he’ll stick with his quarterback.

College Football

#12 Michigan will host #7 Michigan State this Saturday.  Spartans coach Mark Dantonio offered little in the way of updates to the team's growing injury list ahead of the team's top-25 matchup against the Wolverines. Injuries have become one of the biggest storylines to the Spartans' season, as eight different players who have at one time held starting jobs have missed time due to injuries. The latest potentially significant injury came on Saturday against Rutgers, when Spartans center Jack Allen left the game on Michigan State's final drive after taking a helmet to his knee. He's the fourth Spartans offensive line starter to have to leave a game this season because of an injury.

Wolverines running back Drake Johnson's status is still up in the air as the team prepares for number-seven Michigan State. Johnson only played a couple snaps in last weekend's win over Northwestern. Coach Harbaugh sais he was working through something.

The former Michigan State player's visit Tuesday to Harrison High School in Farmington Hills is in partnership with the Taylor Haugen Foundation.

Odom Hospitalized

Former NBA star Lamar Odom has been hospitalized after he was found unconscious Tuesday at a Nevada brothel, according to authorities. The Nye County Sheriff's Department was called at about 3:15 p.m. to Love Ranch in Crystal, Nevada, before Odom stabilized and taken to a hospital. Officials then tried to have him airlifted to Las Vegas, but he was too tall for the helicopter that was available and he was driven by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
