The Red Wings lost to the Rangers 1-0 in overtime last night in Detroit.  The winner came when Mats Zuccarello and J.T. Miller swooped in alone on Detroit goalie Jared Coreau in the extra period. Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall played for the first time since Jan. 4, returning from a lower-body injury. The Red Wings put forward Drew Miller on waivers. The Red Wings head to Boston for tomorrow night’s game at the Garden.  They host Toronto on Wednesday.

Falcons beat Green Bay

The Falcons are NFC champions after Matt Ryan threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in a 44-21 rout of the Packers. Atlanta dominated the first half, scoring on four of their five possessions to take a 24-0 lead into the locker room. Julius Jones had nine receptions for 180 yards and two TDs, including a 73-yard grab-and-run that put the Falcons up 31-0 on their second offensive play of the second half.  The Falcons are in the Super Bowl for just the second time in their 51-season history.

New England Beats Pittsburgh

A season that began with Tom Brady serving a four-game suspension will end with him in the Super Bowl, where his New England Patriots will take on Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons.  Brady and Coach Bill Belichick will be seeking their — and the Patriots' — fifth Lombardi Trophy, and second in three years. This will be the franchise's league-record ninth appearance in the Super Bowl.  The Falcons

The Pistons host Sacramento tonight.  Detroit is 21-24 and 9th in the Eastern Conference.

Men’s College Basketball

KCC lost to Grand Rapids Community College, 91-61 on Friday and lost the Hope JV’s 75-67 on Saturday.  The Bruins fall to 3-15.

KCC lost to the Hope College JV Team, 56-50.

Michigan at beat Nebraska 84-51 on Sunday.  Katelynn Flaherty scored 27 for Michigan.

No. 6 Notre Dame beat North Carolina 77-55 on Sunday.

Tennis

The two top seeds at the Australian Open have been defeated over the weekend. Defending champion Angelique Kerber and top-ranked Andy Murray were losers.  Among the major winners were Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

Golf

Hudson Swafford has claimed his first PGA victory with a strong finish at the CareerBuilder Challenge at La Quinta Country Club.  Swafford had a one-stroke win over Adam Hadwin. Swafford fired a 5-under 67 on Sunday for a 20-under total that earned him just over $1 million and a spot in the Masters.
