Red Wings

The Red Wings lost to the Capitals Wednesday night 2-1 in overtime. Dylan Larkin scored Detroit's lone goal early in the first period. Petr Mrazek stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in goal. Detroit will also host the LA Kings on Friday.

MAC College Football

WMU lost to Northern Illinois, 27-19. Western had its opportunities, outgaining the Huskies in yards and winning the time of possession battle but it was not enough.

Zach Terrell finished the game with 331 yards passing with two touchdowns. Daniel Braverman was on the other end of one of those touchdowns, as he had nine catches for 126 yards. The Broncos (6-5, 5-2) will close out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 27 at noon against Toledo in the Glass Bowl.

CMU beat Kent State 27-14 to improve to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference. With the win, the Chippewas become eligible for a bowl game during coach John Bonamego's first season and for the fourth consecutive season. Cooper Rush finished 20 of 34 passing for 337 yards and a touchdown.

Volleyball

The Class D No. 2-ranked St. Philip volleyball team plays top-ranked Plymouth Christian in today's 2 p.m. state semifinal at Kellogg Arena.

Class C No. 1 ranked Bronson will face Traverse City St. Francis tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Class B Harper Creek will play in the Class B semifinals tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. against No. 8-ranked North Branch at the Kellogg Arena.

High School Football

St. Phillip plays Powers North Central at Greenville on Friday night for the 8-Player Division crown. Broadcast time is 6:35pm on WBCK.

Coldwater plays Chelsea at the state semi-final this Saturday at 1pm at Jackson’s Withington Stadium. The winner heads to the finals at Ford Field.

Big Ten Football

Michigan State Spartans takes on unbeaten Ohio State in Columbus this Saturday …2pm on WBCK.  Tonight at 7pm, it’s the Mark Dantonio Show on WBCK.

Michigan is on the road at Penn State this Saturday…11am on Mix 104-9.

Tigers Get Closer

The Tigers have acquired closer Francisco Rodriguez from the Brewers in exchange for minor league infielder Javier Betancourt and a player to be named later. The 33-year-old right-hander had 38 saves in 40 opportunities last season for Milwaukee.  Rodriguez earned his K-Rod nickname as he notched 194 saves with the Angels from 2005-08. Betancourt, a slick-fielding infielder, hit .263 for Class A Lakeland.

Cy Young

Baseball’s Cy Young winners are Houston Astros Dallas Keuchel, and Chicago Cubs’ Jake Arrieta.   Keuchel went 20-and-8 with a 2.48 ERA and two shutouts this past season. He led the league with 232 innings pitched and earned a Gold Glove.

Arrieta went 22-and-6 with a 1.77 ERA and three shutouts this past season. The 29-year-old had never won more than 10 games in a season before.

Pistons

The Pistons go for two in a row on Friday at Minnesota.

College Basketball
Michigan plays Xavier Friday night.

Nascar’s Chase for the Sprint Cup championship happens this Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. and Jeff Gordon will battle it out.

Lions

The Lions are home to play Oakland this Sunday.  Receiver Calvin Johnson, cornerback Nevin Lawson, defensive tackle Gabe Wright and safety Don Carey did not practice yesterday because of injuries.  Broadcast time is 12 pm on WBCK.
