Sports: Wings, Pistons both win
The Red Wings beat the Islanders 4-2 in Brooklyn. Brad Richards put Detroit up 1-0 on a power play in the first period. Justin Abdelkader and Danny DeKeyser scored 71 seconds apart in the second. Luke Glendening added an empty net goal late in the third.
Petr Mrazek stopped 27 shots on goal in the win, his seventh straight on the road. The Wings are off for 8 days for the NHL All-Star break. Rookie forward Dylan Larkin is Detroit's lone representative in the All-Star Game, which will be played In Nashville Sunday.
Pistons
The Pistons beat the Jazz 95-92 Monday night to go 2-2 on their four game road trip.
Reggie Jackson led all scorers with 29 points, Ersan Ilyasova had 16. Detroit is 24-21 and head home for a two-game home stand beginning tomorrow night against the Philadelphia 76ers.
KCC Basketball
The KCC men’s team fell to 0-7 after a loss to KVCC, 73-66.
The KCC women also lost to KVCC, 72-48.
In the MAC tonight
Western Michigan will host Bowling Green.
Central Michigan is at Miami of Ohio.
Eastern Michigan is at Kent State.

Lions Hire Backs Coach
The Lions have hired David Walker as running backs coach. Walker coached running backs for the Indianapolis Colts from 2011-14, and worked under Detroit head coach Jim Caldwell in the 2011 season. He replaces Curtis Modkins, who left the Lions to become the new offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
MSU Basketball
Michigan State's next game is Thursday at Northwestern. A win over a top 10-ranked Maryland team helped Michigan State avoid another significant slide down the polls. The Spartans are ranked No. 12 in this week's Associated Press poll, one spot below its previous ranking following a 1-1 week.
