The Red Wings lost 3-1 in Tampa  Gustav Nyquist had Detroit's lone goal.

J.T. Brown and Tyler Johnson also scored for the Lightning, who have won nine of 10.

Ben Bishop made 24 saves to get 100th win with Tampa Bay.  Petr Mrazek stopped 20 shots and had his seven-game road winning streak end.  The Wings wrap up their two-game road trip as they visit the Panthers tonight.

Pistons

The Pistons fell to the Celtics Wednesday night 102-95 on the road.   Detroit fell behind by as many as 24 in the third quarter before cutting the deficit to seven. The Pistons came back despite playing the second half without guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who left with a right groin strain after he appeared to slip on a wet spot on the court late in the second quarter.  Reggie Jackson led the Pistons with 17 points. Andre Drummond added 16 points and 13 rebounds.  The Pistons return to the Palace to host the New York Knicks tonight.

Women’s Basketball

Aerial Powers scored 27 points and No. 17 Michigan State was perfect on 19 free throws in defeating Michigan 85-64 on Wednesday night.

KCC beat Glen Oaks, 61-54. Roland Petty had 17 points,  Asktin Kaminer had 15 and Holly Vantilburg scored 11.  Coach Kyle Klingaman said the team played a very solid game, with only 6 players.

Men’s Basketball

The KCC men’s team beat Glen Oaks, 108-82.  Angus Bennett had 22 points and 13 rebounds.   Mohammed Albagami also had 22.

Big Ten Basketball

The Michigan will hosts #10 Michigan State in their only regular season meeting on Saturday.  Hear it at 1pm on WBCK.

NBA All-Star Dunk Contest

The field for the NBA Slam Dunk Contest is being leaked. According to Cleveland.com, Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine, Pistons center Andre Drummond, Nuggets wing Will Barton and Magic forward Aaron Gordon are set to participate. The dunk contest is apart of NBA All-Star Saturday Night on February 13th in Toronto. The NBA All-Star Game is the following day. LaVine is the defending champion of the event.

National Signing Day

Wednesday was college athlete’s National Signing Day.  Battle Creek Central's Brandon Randle signed to play college football at Michigan State, and Bearcat Cyntell Williams signed to play at Ferris State University.  Lakeview running back Dre’On Kemp will play at Grand Valley.   St. Philip volleyball star Abby McKinzie will play at Virginia Tech, joining older sister Amanda there.  Defensive tackle Rashan Gary, the nation's top recruit, has decided to play for Michigan.  The MSU Spartans signed the top-ranked prospect in the state of Illinois, defensive end Josh King.

Former Raiders Quarterback Ken Stabler Had CTE

Researchers at Boston University have determined that former Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler had the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), believed to be caused by repeated blows to the head. Though Stabler died in July at age 69 of colon cancer, a postmortem examination of his brain revealed that, on a scale of 1 to 4, the Hall of Fame finalist had high Stage 3 CTE. The disease can currently only be determined definitively after death and is believed to be related to concussions. Stabler joins a list of over 100 football players reported to have CTE.

Former Tigers and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will stay in New York.  The free-agent slugger signed a three-year, 75-million-dollar contract with the Mets.
