The Tigers’ opening day in Chicago was rained out Monday, and the two teams are scheduled to play today.  Broadcast time is 1:45 today on 95.3 WBCK.  Weather today in Chicago should be cloudy with temperatures in the 50’s.    Day games are scheduled in Chicago for Wednesday and Thursday with more rain and snow in the forecast.

NCAA Basketball

North Carolina beat Gonzaga 71-65 to win the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship in Glendale Arizona.  It’s the sixth time the Tar Heels have won it all.   Joel Berry II had a team-high 22 points for the Tar Heels.  The Tar Heels shot under 36 percent from the field and were just 4-for-27 from 3-point range.  North Carolina freshman big man Tony Bradley says he will declare for the NBA draft.

Red Wings

The Red Wings beat the Ottawa Senators 5-4 in a shootout on Monday night.  In his first NHL game, the Wings’ Evgeni Svechnikov scored the only goal in the 7th round of the shootout.  Tomas Tatar had a goal and an assist, and Frans Nielsen, Gustav Nyquist and Dylan Larkin scored in regulation for Detroit.   Nick Jensen had two assists and Petr Mrazek stopped 41 shots.  The Red Wings have 3 games left, two at Joe Louis Arena.   They travel to play the Ottawa Senators tonight, and finish the season and their long history at the Joe with games on Saturday and Sunday.

The NHL made it official on Monday.  It won’t be participating in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.  The owners say they see no tangible benefit in halting the season for three weeks. The league made the decision despite clear signs from the world’s best players that they want to go.

Pistons

The Pistons host the Raptors on Wednesday. With four games left, Detroit is in 11th place, two games of the pace to make the playoffs.  The Miami Heat are in 8th place.  Indiana and Charlotte are both ahead of the Pistons in the race for the last playoff spot. .

KCC Baseball

KCC’s baseball team had their game at Lake Michigan College rained out.   KCC ran its record to 8-0 in the conference with four wins over Ancilla College last weekend.  The Bruins scored 49 runs in the four games.

Women’s Hockey Wins

The United States beat Finland 5-3 on Monday night to secure the top seed for the knockout round of the women's hockey world championship.  Canada will take on the winner of a Finland-Sweden quarterfinal.

Lions Sign Bellore

The Detroit Lions have signed former CMU linebacker Nick Bellore.  Bellore spent the past two seasons with the 49ers and played his first four seasons with the Jets.
