Red Wings

The Red Wings erased a two goal deficit and snapped their three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets Thursday night at Joe Louis Arena. Dylan Larkin and Jonathan Ericsson scored in the second period to tie the game.  Justin Abdelkader netted the winning goal with under four minutes left in regulation.   Petr Mrazek made 23 saves in the win.  Detroit hosts the New York Rangers Saturday.

Big Ten Basketball

The number two-seed Michigan State Spartans will open Big Ten Tournament play this evening when they take on seven-seed Ohio State.  Hear MSU/Ohio State….5:30pm on WBCK.

Michigan Wins

Michigan pulled out a win with 3.3 seconds left to advance in the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis, a 72-70 overtime win over #9 seed Northwestern on Thursday. Zak Irvin, playing back in his home town, sank a jump shot to give the Wolverines the win.  The 21-11 Wolverines trailed 70-67, but Duncan Robinson's 3-pointer tied it up.  Robinson led Michigan with 21 points, Irvin added 19 and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman added 14. The Wolverines advance to play No. 1 seed Indiana in Friday's first quarterfinal.

Mac Tourney

Bowling Green pulled off its second upset in the Mid-American Conference tournament by knocking off Central Michigan 62-59 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.  Top-seeded Akron rallied in the second half to beat Eastern Michigan 65-63

NBA/Pistons

The Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets tonight and then head to Philadelphia and Washington.

Girls Basketball

The Marshall Redhawks won the Class B Regional title as they beat Otsego at Harper Creek, 57-37.    The win puts them in the State Quarterfinals. They will take on the Cougars of Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Tuesday is at 7pm at Otsego High School.

In Class D, the Climax-Scotts Panthers were eliminated on their home floor, falling to the Wyoming Tri-Unity Defenders 58-46. The Panthers season comes to a close at 20-3.

Softball

KCC’s Softball team beat Macomb but lost to Parkland Community College Thursday at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville Florida.  The Bruins are now 4-2.  They have 4 more games in Florida before heading home on Saturday.

Tigers

The Tigers and the Phillies played to a 6-6 tie Thursday afternoon in Clearwater. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was roughed up, giving up five runs, four earned, on five hits including two home runs while striking out three in three and two third innings.

James McCann had a two run homer and infielder Thomas Field had a solo shot in the ninth inning to tie the game at six all.   Detroit is in Kissimmee this afternoon to visit the Houston Astros.

Lions Sign More Free Agents

The Lions have signed free agent defensive tackle Stefan Charles and cornerback Johnson Bademosi.   Charles had 13 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in 13 games for the Buffalo Bills last season.  Bademosi joins Detroit after spending the last four years with the Cleveland Browns.  He was an NFL co-leader in special teams tackles last season.  The Lions also re-signed linebacker Tahir Whitehead and wide receiver Corey Fuller Thursday.
