Tonight, undefeated and 17th –ranked Western Michigan will play at Ball State.   It’s an 8pm broadcast on ESPN2.    Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck’s crew is 8-0 and 4-0 in the MAC.  Ball State is in last-place, at 4-4 and 1-3 in the conference.

For Western Michigan, its chance to show the college football world why they are one of five remaining unbeaten teams in the country and why they deserve to be in a College Football Playoff bowl game.  The first batch of rankings will be released shortly after the Broncos game begins.

Monday Night Football

Jay Cutler completed 20 of his 31 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown as the Bears beat the Vikings, 20-10.   The Vikings are now 5-2 after a 5-0 start. Chicago is 2-6.   Chicago had a 13-0 lead when Cutler hit Alshon Jeffery for a TD. Cutler was back under center and looking sharp after missing five games with a thumb injury.   Vikings QB Sam Bradford was sacked five times.  Bears rookie Jordan Howard ran for a season-high 153 yards and a TD against the Vikes including a 69-yard run, the longest for Chicago in seven years.

Lions Football

The Lions play at Minnesota next Sunday.

 World Series

The Chicago Cubs trail the Cleveland Indians three games to two.  The series shifts to Cleveland for Game 6 tonight.  Cubs manager Joe Maddon anticipates closer Aroldis Chapman will be available for another long outing in Game 6 of the World Series despite throwing 42 pitches in an eight-out save on Sunday.  Rookie catcher Willson Contreras is set to start with Jake Arrieta on the mound for Game 6 at Cleveland against Josh Tomlin.  Indians manager Terry Francona says he’ll go with either Rajai Davis or Coco Crisp in left field tonight, as Carlos Santana moves back to DH.

College Football

The 2-6 Spartans play at Illinois on Saturday. (10:30am on WBCK)

Number 2 Michigan will host Maryland on Saturday in Ann Arbor.  (2:30 on 104.9 the Edge)

Olivet College is 7-1 and 5-0 in the MIAA.  The Comets visit Adrian College this Saturday.

The Red Wings travel to Philly on Wednesday.

College Basketball

Michigan State is 12th in the AP's preseason men's college basketball rankings, with the Spartans rebuilding after Denzel Valentine moved on to the NBA. Duke is ranked No. 1, followed by Kentucky, Kansas and Villanova.  MSU plays Saginaw Valley State in an exhibition game Wednesday.  Deb Ordiway called in and won tickets to the game on the WBCK Morning Show.

Valentine Scores for Bulls

Bull’s rookie Denzel Valentine, the college player of the year last season, scored his first NBA points with a three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter in last night's game between Chicago and Brooklyn. Valentine hit the shot after being subbed for Dwyane Wade.

High School Football Playoffs

Three area teams made it through District Pre-Finals and play District Final games this weekend.  Undefeated Climax-Scotts (10-0) will take on 8-2 Mendon in Division 8.  The game is Friday at 7pm at Climax-Scotts.   WBCK will broadcast the game at 6:35pm.

Homer will host Concord on Friday night in a battle of 8-2 teams.   After Coldwater defeated Harper Creek to advance, the Cardinals (8-2) will go on the road to face Chelsea (10-0) in a Division 3 game on Friday.
