A Battle Creek property is now in the hands of one of the area’s non-profit organizations.

The Calhoun County Land Bank announced Tuesday that the property at 245 North Kendall Street was sold to Sprout Urban Farms, an organization that works to bring healthful, affordable and fair food to Battle Creek residents.

Sprout Urban Farms was a longtime steward of the property, leasing the property from the Land Bank since 2012. The land used to be the former home of Battle Creek Academy and Bright Star Faith Temple.

Sprout Urban Farms was paying the Land Bank a dollar a year for the lease.
