The Saint Philip Fighting Tigers continued to show why they are a ranked team as they easily handed the Colon Magi a 78-54 loss Friday night.  St. Phil put the first two points on the scoreboard and added 12 more before Colon scored their first basket of the night. 

St. Phil’s offense simply over powered Colon from the opening tip-off.  The Fighting Tigers took a 16-point lead into the locker room at the half (40-24) and increased the lead to 26 (63-37) at the end of the third period.  The Magi turned the ball over 21 times, compared to 15 TOs for the Fighting Tigers who out-shot Colon 59 to 42 percent.  Alex Doyle had the hot hand for St. Phil scoring 19-points with six rebounds. He was followed by Issac Cloward with 13 and Dreyson English with 12.  Bradley Brittingham led all Colon scorers with 19-points and eight rebounds. St. Philip improves to 15 and 1 on the season.

Earlier in the evening’s first match, Megan Gordon scored 21 points and had eight rebounds to help lead the St. Philip girls’ varsity basketball team to a 42-32 win over Colon in the Lady Tigers’ regular-season finale. They are now 12-8 overall heading into Class D district action that opens Monday at St. Phil.
