It was a packed house of spectators and fans at Sheila Guerra Gymnasium who watched the Saint Philip Fighting Tigers trounce the visiting Climax-Scotts Panthers 68-40 Friday night in a battle of Southern Central Athletic Association basketball rivals.

The Fighting Tigers trailed for most of the first period, but poured it on in the final minutes to pull ahead of the Panthers 20-16 as the first period came to an end.  From that point on it was all Saint Philip.  The Panthers scored a mere six-points in the second period compared to the Fighting Tigers’ 15.  Overall, Saint Philip’s overall shooting was at 54.7% to Climax-Scotts’ 29.7%.

Leading Saint Philip’s scoring attack was Dreyson English with 23-points, 12 coming from outside the arc, and seven rebounds, followed by Alex Doyle with 10-points and six-rebounds and Tyler Hubbard-Neil with nine-points and three rebounds.

With the win, Saint Philip record improves to 9-and-0 while Climax-Scotts drops to 4-and-4.

In the evening’s first game, it was Saint Philip over Climax-Scotts 40-30 in girls’ varsity basketball action.
