63rd District State Representative Dave Maturen talked with me this morning, following Governor Snyder’s much talked about “State of the State Address”.   He said it was definitely a lot different than his first State of the State a year ago, as the Flint Water crisis took center stage.  I agree with Dave, that the Governor didn’t try to duck the issue or spin it.  Maturen says he likes the Governor’s focus on finding solutions and moving forward to fix the problems in Fling.  We also talked about the problem in the Detroit Public Schools and about State Energy Policy.

Rep. Maturen expressed disappointment that a bill to allow citizens to vote by absentee ballot anytime, without a particular reason, did not pass.  Instead, the portion of the bill that ends straight party ticket voting was approved.  Maturen says he hopes “no reason” absentee voting may still become a reality in Michigan.
