The Michigan Supreme Court heard arguments this week in the case of a Battle Creek man convicted in the murder of his girlfriend’s daughter.

Leo Ackley is serving life without parole in the death of three year old Baylee Stenman. Ackley has appealed his conviction, claiming that his lawyer failed to call expert witnesses on his behalf.

Ackley told investigators that the child had fallen out of bed but doctors in the case testified that the injuries were too severe for that to have been the case.

The court will decide in the next few months whether or not to order a new trial.
