The Michigan State Housing Development Authority has reopened the Step Forward Michigan foreclosure prevention program, after receiving funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury.  The program assists eligible homeowners by paying delinquent property taxes and/or mortgage payments.

In a release, Calhoun County Treasurer Christine Schauer is urging struggling families to apply for the program. Treasurer Schauer says,

“Through Step Forward Michigan, we’ve been able to bring over $800,000 in property tax assistance to families that need it most."

Step Forward Michigan is funded by the Hardest Hit Fund, and has provided assistance to 186 families in Calhoun County to Date.

The Step Forward Michigan online portal allows homeowners to access program information and submit their Hardest Hit Fund loan application via the internet.
