Suspect In Texas Township Fires Arrested

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies have a suspected serial arsonist in custody.

On Monday afternoon, Anthony Packards was arraigned on several charges, including three counts of fourth degree arson. Packards was picked up over the weekend after two different vehicle fires in the Texas Township area.

A fire was reported at Calvary Reformed Church around 11 PM on Saturday and a second vehicle fire took place at a mobile home park off of Ninth Street.

Authorities say Packards got stuck in a snowbank following the second fire. He fled the scene on foot but authorities found him hiding under a stairwell nearby.
