Downtown Battle Creek Tattoo Parlor Approved; To Open In A Few Weeks

The Battle Creek City Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved the application by business founders Jackie and Jesse Westover, to open up shop at 98 W. Michigan Ave.
Last month, the city planning commission found that the parlor would be “harmonious” with the city’s Master Plan, which emphasizes the promotion of “diverse” businesses in the downtown area.

Battle Creek Survey Shows 77% Support Medical Marijuana Businesses

Results of a medical marijuana survey conducted by the City of Battle Creek are now in.

The City says Tuesday that over 700 responses were made, either online or through paper copies, and that 82 percent of respondents said they live in the city.

Downtown Battle Creek could be home to a tattoo parlor very soon.
The Battle Creek City Commission will be considering a resolution at their meeting next Tuesday, that would allow for a tattoo and piercing parlor to set up shop at 98 W. Michigan Ave, a building that previously hosted Sweet Kreations Bakery.

Behnke Selected As Mayor, Walters Elected Vice Mayor of Battle Creek

Battle Creek’s Mayor and Vice Mayor have now been selected, in a split vote by the City Commission Tuesday night.
The City says that after the swearing in of commissioners, Mark Behnke was chosen to serve as mayor with a 5-4 vote, with Dave Walters getting picked as Vice Mayor 6-3.

According to the Commission’s agenda, the organizational meeting will set the schedule for the next year, before moving on to the regular meeting, throwing commissioners back into the thick of things. Among the resolutions to be considered is one that will create a Battle Creek Fire Fighters Retiree Health Insurance Funding Trust, a trust that has already established funding.

The City says that they have selected Abi Fukuyama as President, Gabriel Williams as Vice President, and Isabelle Hammond as Secretary. Fukuyama is a student at Kellogg Community College, while Williams studies at Battle Creek Central and Hammond at Lakeview High School.
