The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that a team executed a search warrant to a home on North Park St. around 9pm Sunday, after tips led them to believe drugs were inside. Once inside, police found a large amount of crack cocaine and marijuana, along with a loaded handgun and almost $5,000 in cash.

Richland Police were investigating a mobile home near Gull Lake Middle School, because they believed a marijuana growing operation was taking place. Inside the home, police found things like motor oil and butane gas, which led them to believe that the occupants were using the space to create hash oil.

44-year-old Todd Maneke appeared in Kalamazoo County Court on Monday, January 30, where a judge ordered him to serve between 15 and 20 years in prison; he pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of 88-year-old Alfred Minka last month.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that on Saturday, they conducted a search of the home on North Drake Rd, based on information they had obtained that led them to believe it was a bed of illegal drug activity.

Benton Harbor authorities investigated a missing person report Sunday, and found her body in her car at an apartment complex a few hours later. Foul play was suspected, and a suspect was identified.

Battle Creek Police officers responded to the C-Store at the corner of Columbia Ave. and 20th St, where the suspect vehicle was located; at the scene, police found a 31-year-old man and 34-year-old woman, along with stolen property.

The program, put on by the National Alliance on Mental Illness Calhoun County, will feature speakers from Summit Pointe about opiate dangers and addiction; speeches will also be held by two women who were a part of creating Michigan’s Good Samaritan law

28-year-old James Smith was in US District Court in Grand Rapids Thursday, and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a charge of sex trafficking of a minor. Prosecutors say that Smith, along with three other co-defendants, forced two 14-year-old runaways into prostitution, gave them drugs and threatened them with violence.

Authorities say that Deputies went to a home in the 13,400 block of Beadle Lake Rd. October 17, after someone said stolen goods were there. While speaking to someone at the residence, deputies noticed that there was theft of power taking place. Deputies returned later with a search warrant.

The Battle Creek Police Department says Monday that the 24-year-old Battle Creek man showed up at police HQ with his family and volunteered himself into custody, and he will be charged with felony murder in the death of 22-year-old Kyle Brown. The suspect will be named once he's arraigned, the BCPD says.
