Voters in Calhoun County are heading to the polls for the first election of 2019, to vote on several different measures and proposals. Polls open at 7am Tuesday, May 7, and close at 8pm. If you're in line by 8pm, you will be allowed to cast your ballot.

The Emmett Township Committee for Better Roads has now announced that they will be holding six informational meetings over the next month to help make their case for passing the proposal

The bills are sponsored by Republican Representatives Beau LaFave and Pamela Hornberger, and co-sponsors include local Emmett Township Representative Matt Hall.

A crash between a sedan and a semi-truck in the Battle Creek area Wednesday morning resulted in three teens getting hurt. According to the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, the accident took place around 7:06am Wednesday on E. Columbia Ave. near Inn Rd, next to D'nicio's Parlor and Lucky Rooster.

The citywide Boil Water Advisory that was announced Tuesday afternoon for Battle Creek water service customers has now been lifted.

At this time no contaminants have been identified, but some customers are experiencing discoloration in their water. Water samples have been taken for testing, and once test results have come back negative for anything harmful the advisory will be lifted after 24 hours.

Residents of Battle Creek, Springfield and the four surrounding townships are being advised of a large Boil Water Advisory Tuesday.

43-year-old Edwin Walker was arraigned Wednesday on a charge related to his escape from jail, a charge that could carry up to six years in prison; he could get even more than that as several other crimes were committed during the alleged flight.
