The Hydrogeologic Investigation, carried out by Georgia Pacific and Tetra Tech and overseen by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, has been collecting water samples for the first set of monitor wells that have been installed at the paper mill; there are at least 12 more wells to be installed.

Results from testing done in July have found dioxins in residential water wells in the Otsego area. Preliminary test results were received for 16 residential wells in the Otsego area, 14 in Allegan County and 2 in Kalamazoo County, indicating some levels of dioxins are in the water wells.
