FireKeeper's Casino Hotel is moving forward with plans to convert an old Battle Creek fire station into a restaurant and food pantry.

In a release, FireKeeper's says that the construction at The Fire Hub, which will operate out of the historic Fire Station #4 on the corner of Kendall St. and Dickman Rd, is moving along smoothly, as the restaurant's concepts are being fully developed.

The menu, being put together by Head Chef Jen Ozolins, is expected to be "upscale, yet affordable" with breakfast, sandwiches and pizzas being featured.

The back of the Fire Hub will serve as an agency of the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, and land on the property is expected to be used to grow food to provide free salad bars at Battle Creek area schools.

The grand opening of The Fire Hub is expected in the spring of 2017.
