The Oldest Rivalry – HS Football-Week 4
We're inching closer to the mid-way point in the High School Football season, and several scenarios are starting to take shape. The Interstate 8 Conference has reached the third game of their conference schedules, and while the expected Jackson Lumen Christi Titans have been dominate, the Coldwater Cardinals have been the big surprise. They're sitting at 3-0 overall and an undefeated 2-0 in the I-8 after a 35-6 pounding of the Pennfield Panthers.
This leads to this week's Game of the Night on WBCK, as the Panthers head to Marshall to take on the Redhawks. First-year head coach Mike McGuire is still searching for his first win as the leader of the Panthers, and will have a tough task in order to get it. They'll have to find offense after shootout losses to Olivet and Parma Western to start the season.
The hosting Redhawks earned their first win last week in a 45-44 overtime thriller with the Parma Western Panthers. The roller-coaster night saw Marshall lead 35-10 at the half and need a field goal to tie it in regulation to head to the extra period. It's been that type of a year already for Marshall, falling short to Milan and being shutout by Coldwater in Week 2.
Also on this week's slate is the "Oldest Rivalry West of the Allegenies", as the Battle Creek Central Bearcats ride the "Buckboard Wagons" (buses) to Kalamazoo Central to take on the Maroon Giants. It will be the first time since 2010 that the two teams have met in a Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference divisional game (K-Central was in the West Division from 2011-2013). The Bearcats will also look to end a six-game losing streak to the Maroon Giants, including a 23-7 loss last year. Central looks to recover from a 37-7 defeat to Lakeview last week, while K-Central is still looking for win number one after an overtime loss to Loy Norrix.
In other action, Harper Creek travels north to Charlotte to battle the Orioles and the undefeated St. Philip Tigers host Homecoming Saturday against the Bobcats of Burr Oak. Here's this week's schedule!
