Three people are dead and four others were injured in a Sunday evening crash near Albion that shut I-94 down for close to four hours.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to I-94 near the 29 Mile Road exit in Sheridan Township around 7:30 p.m., where an eastbound vehicle crossed the median and struck a vehicle on the westbound side.

A 16-year-old passenger from Albion was killed in the crash from the eastbound car, along with a 74-year-old woman from Jackson and 77-year-old woman from Columbus, Ohio in the westbound vehicle. The 16-year-old Albion driver, two 15-year-old females from Albion, and a 57-year-old Jackson man sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

The investigation of the crash continues.
