The Flu has impacted more people this year than it has in years. Kalamazoo health officials have already reported three Flu-related deaths for 2018.

Schools have been closed, due to the Flu in, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and surrounding areas to try to prevent the spread of the virus and get things cleaned and sanitized in the buildings. However, there are still those who have the Flu that need to seek medical attention before things get worse.

WWMT reports:

Health officials confirm at least three people have died because of flu-related complications in Kalamazoo County this season, and the virus continues to spread at an alarming rate.

The Kalamazoo Health Department could also mandate all schools to be closed for extended periods of time if the virus isn't brought under control soon.

You can protect yourself against the flu by doing simple things like washing your hands before eating and not putting your hands near your face or in your mouth. Washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water works fine. If soap and water are not available, rub your hands with an alcohol-based hand cleaner. If someone in your family has the flu, you can help prevent it from spreading by cleaning surfaces with a solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water.

Calhoun County has not reported any Flu-related deaths for the new year.
