The National Council for Home Safety and Security just published their Top 10 list of America’s most dangerous cities and unfortunately Michigan occupies 30% of them.

The methodology they used was as follows:

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting database was consulted and crime reports were downloaded for the years 2010-2014 (the most recent years available) for multiple jurisdictions. This database is restricted to agencies that serve at least 10,000 people. After eliminating data for any jurisdiction that was purely “regional” (not a municipality), not present at least 3 of the 5 years, or with multiple missing entries, 3,482 towns/cities remained for analysis.

What are the 3 cities in their Top 10 list of America’s most dangerous cities, they are:

  • Flint ranked fifth with a rate of 2,109 violent crimes per 100,000 people
  • Detroit came in as the sixth with a rate of 2,059 violent crimes per 100,000 people
  • Saginaw ranked seventh with a rate of 2,021 violent crimes per 100,000 people

We know that Detroit is seeing a reemergence of economic activity in the city, let us hope that with that reemergence the violent crime rate will decline.

It appears that Flint and Saginaw has some work to do.

By the way what political party has lead these cities to the state they are in now?  Maybe we should look at the ideology that has lead these cities for decades, trace it back to the party and determine if that is the route they want or should continue.
